not many "pro style" QBs in HS since not many HS QBs get under center anymore
but I do agree that LSU should tweak the offense to fit the QB better...and they did towards the end of the year

Lee, jefferson, Jennings, rettig, rivers, Mett were all pro style qbs.
But similar problem with JJ. Under crowton we were trying to run the option with a qb not suited for that.

we have a bigger problem which is recruiting a qb that fits our system. Harris and Jennings are not pro style quarterbacks. The staff should have known this and either recruited a pro style qb or tweak the system. we don't do that though we just jam the players in.
Ding ding ding.

the problem is you are looking at anomalies, not the norms would it be nice for LSU to have one of those anomalies every now and then? sure...
I get your point that we can't always get that Freshman Heisman winner, but Damn, every year you see other major programs starting Freshman or first year starters with much greater success than our "experienced" QBs. Les's approach to coaching QBs sorta reminds me of the Lou Tepper defense that took 3 years to learn, so we were never any good on D then.

do we?
or are we just talking about this year?

we didn't open shite up against auburn. we ran the ball 17 out of the first 20 plays and we put Harris in a spot he wasn't comfortable. We had him under center instead of in the gun. Plus our d was of no help putting us in a 17-0 hole.
Urban took a lump vs va tech but he didn't shut down his offense and pack it in for the year. Les took the lump and closed up shop

How did Les "close up shop" exactly? lol
You don't think he wanted to win anymore after that?

obviously it all fell apart again against Arky

We did for the a&m game but by that point its entirely too late. I don't even think we need to scrap the entire system. We just need to tweak it and run it to our strengths. wr screens, dump offs to the running backs not connor neighbors, easy passes and then strike deep.

our offense shut down after the auburn game, we don't see harris again and we went into basically running a goal line offense. It worked to beat ole miss. Im fairly certain that we could have ran any offense we felt like and beat UF and UK. We beat ole miss and hung with bama. We finally ran somewhat of what we should have been doing all year vs a&m.

good grief.
Without doing any research at all, just off the top of my head, I can recall these guys having a lot of success their first year starting (not counting this year): Greg McElroy, Tim Tebow, Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron, Cam Newton, Johnny Football, Brett Hundley, Jameis.
I'm sure if I did the research, I'd find a bunch of guys throughout the country that performed well their first year starting.
The deniers need to put this to bed. First year starters at QB can do very well.

where did I say they couldn't..?
I simply said how many years were an abundant number of first year starters more successful than an experienced LSU QB?

People are looking at the Manziels, the Winstons, the QB situation at Ohio State and say, why can't LSU do that?
It's not as if we're seeing the same program making magic happen over and over. It's spread out over the entire college football landscape.
Improbable events happen all the time. People should remember that and let it sink in. Someone will win the lottery today somewhere. And tomorrow, and then next day. Doesn't mean it's not an extremely unlikely event to happen to any single person.
For every QB we see hit the scene seemingly out of nowhere, there's hundreds more in college football that won't amount to much.

Bull. Harris was thrown to the wolves in the worst possible scenario. On the road at Auburn for a first start. There was ample opportunity to let him start a game at home before that. And since when does one debacle on the road at Auburn mean the kid should be shelved for the rest of the year. I would say ok, if Jennings was killing it. But he wasn't at all. There was no excuse to shelve Harris for the rest of the year. And not to give him any time at all in a meaningless bowl game in which, again, Jennings was not tearing it up. Completing 50% or less of his passes per game does not warrant 100% of the playing time.

But, but, but...Jennings just needs more time.

harris: 9 TD's
jennings: 11 TD's
jennings: 11 TD's

Not exactly a fair first test, no?
oh give me a fricking break. this entire board was begging Miles to start him against Auburn after his game against NMSU.

What did jennings show in his 12 starts this year?
Posted on 1/13/15 at 2:36 pm to ItsThatDude12
