What does that matter? They didn't have the balls to actually pull the trigger last year. And i don't think they'll actually pull the trigger this year

The upper tier TAF members and folks on the board need to just have a seat and keep their worthless opinions on fb and message boards while shelling out thousands

Good.

He's a good guy and human being. That doesn't automatically mean he should be lionized as a "until I retire" type of head coach.

ESPN writes tons of articles criticizing Les. They essentially call him a baffoon on TV and scrutinize his gameday shortcomings like clock management. They talk about how LSU underachieves given their talent. They lament how Miles can't get a passing game going.

Out of the other side of their collective mouths, they wring their hands when LSU's fans and administration make similar evaluations about Miles. They can't understand why LSU would look at going another direction.

So in short, ESPN sows discord regarding Miles' job performance, then gets uppity when there is discord regarding his performance. #theWorldWideLeader

You're not factoring in how much revenue a consistently top 5 program brings in yearly..

i understand the money, i just don't think they have the grapefruits to do it if we go 9-4 again with another loss to bama

Now if we go 6-6 or 7-5, then i can see it

I'll believe something when it happens. ESPN loves to gossip and stir the pot. Gets viewers. These threads right now are meaningless.

When a coup fails as spectacularly as this one did, that's it, at least for a few years. Like Tubby after Auburn failed to get rid of him the first time, it will take no less than a losing season for Miles to be forced out now. That sure as hell isn't happening this season.

An influential LSU donor called Insider last fall on the day of the regular-season finale against Texas A&M. His understanding was that Miles was out and that FSU’s Jimbo Fisher would be announced as the new coach in a matter of days.

so so so sick of this being repeated.

aint it great to have an anonymous source so you can never be held accountable as a reporter?

It does my heart good when someone on the Rant understands, acknowledges, and embraces reality.

ESPN is not here to help LSU. I do not understand this mentality among LSU fans of what our place is supposed to be with a company like ESPN.

LSU is, and always will be, in the second tier of CFB teams in ESPN's eyes due to our market size/space. Should LSU do something historic, say like the 2011 season, ESPN will do all it can to put LSU back in said place (like a rematch with a conference rival LSU already beat on the road), knowing that if the situation were reversed, ESPN would tell LSU to go to hell.

ESPN does not want LSU to surpass Bama or Florida as the SEC's two Tier 1 schools. Period. End of story.

They are not here to help LSU in any way. Ignore them and enjoy being a fan.

I dont see why it is insane to think the team with top 3 talent in the country shouldn't lose 3 games a year. Also dont understand how people are cool with our pee wee offense

Would love les to be HC and recruit for many years to come. I wish we could give him the Jo Pa treatment and not allow him to have a headset

Since when do the gumps have a larger market size/space than LSU? Have you been to Tuscaloosa?
And if you aren't talking about population when discussing market size then it's up to branding and winning to create your "market size/space. It's time for us to beat the gumps, everything else will fall in to place. And f... bama and espn!

I'm not negative. I'm a realist. I like Miles as head coach but I've also resigned to the fact that a 10 win season will be the norm.

Miles is going to once more be the greatest coach in LSU history next season until...... he loses that first game. After that, the same vocal group that wanted him fired last season will be calling for his head again. However, I agree with those who say LSU (over-exaggerated) financial struggles will likely save him regardless of record. That's a large part of what saved him this season.

The president and Governor are "all in" on the woe-is-me narrative. They aren't making any athletic changes that might look bad and negate their belly-aching. Just look at the past few months:

1. The didn't even entertain the idea of letting Johnny Jones go after he completely bombed with the most hyped team he will probably ever have at LSU. There was literally no good reason to keep Jones for next season, but there was no hint whatsoever of a thought to let him go.

2. They just scrapped the long-planned nutrition center because of the "budget crisis."

State governments, including higher education, can find ways to waste money that many of us didn't even think was possible. LSU isn't in "dire straits" as they like to portray. But, if you are going all in on that argument, paying a guy several million dollars NOT TO COACH doesn't help you sell your BS to the public.

He may be on the hot seat with the fans. But he's not on the hot seat for the people who actually determine whether he stays or goes.

Miles has done well in the offseason to shape up the program. Recruiting and coaching hires have been excellent. But its all about W's and L's. Still needs to win the west and/or beat Bama this year. Another underachieving season will end like last season.

All Miles has to do is adapt his offense and get the most out of his talent. That's it bc the wins will come then. It's that simple...
If he gets the offense rolling, we will win. If we win, everything corrects itself. If he doesn't, we will be the new UGA under Mark Richt. Great talent but never win the big games.

Great post and spot on.
