He says our general scheme worked for 3 of our 5 most recent losses to bama. Moreover, what worries me is that while we are blessed to win plenty of games, we don't lose enough to have a major change in offensive philosophy. Kind of damned if we do and damned if we don't. Thoughts?

doesn't matter we lost 5/5

"No. And I'm appaled that you even would have the nerve to think such a thing. Nothing should ever change-the plan is PERFECT! It won't beat bama, but that shouldn't matter to anyone because beating the only team preventing us from being the best is not important! Any fan who thinks we should try to beat bama is bamasessed and I'm ashamed of them. We won a national championship 8 years ago dammitt!"

the way our oline played there is no scheme in the world that would work

We haven't had a 20-yard run or longer on Bama in 6 games. We are the only team in the West that can claim that. Is our O-line bad every year? That is a pretty incredible stat (especially when you consider that we play smash-mouth football and have had multiple RBs on our team that are now in the NFL). Also, the most we've scored on Bama over the last 6 games is 17 points and that is with two OT games. Every team in the West has at least scored 20 on them in that time.

We have some scheme issues against Bama with regards to predictability because they know exactly what is coming and have the talent to stop it. Our defensive players said that Bama saved a lot of looks for them that they hadn't seen on film. Their offense had a lot more success than we had.

It's bothered me for 5 years now , the LSU game is the easiest game of the year for Saban to game plan against, stop the run and and LSU folds.

Sigh. I'm sure this has already been posted sometime within the last 72 hours or so, but Alabama was the better team Saturday night. Little or nothing to do with scheme or in game coaching. Bigger faster guys on both lines.

Not one carry of 20 or more yards in SIX games against them and a high of 17 points scored on them in that time frame...worst in the West for both...sigh.

That could only make sense if the head coach was more worried about keeping his job than about maximizing his teams performance and winning championships.

This. Miles will not change unless he feels that his job is in jeopardy, which it's not. It doesn't matter that we haven't been a serious contender for the SEC title since 2011, and that we're usually out of the mix by the 2nd week of November. He doesn't feel any pressure to change what he's doing, since he wins almost 80% of his games. He either doesn't see or doesn't care that he is the one that keeps his team from reaching the next level.

Please go read the threads on Welter from the last two years, and then last year up until Kendall Beckwith was inserted into the lineup.

Then you'll realize how stupid you sound.

Fans are not as stupid as you think.

To say that Les Miles unquestionably knows everything is completely ridiculous.

Yes. What we do works against most teams. It doesn't work against Bama. Hugh Freeze has already said he's looking at what Bama did. Les will open it some this week because he feels the heat but he will not do it two straight games. If we beat Arkansas, the pressure will be on and we run right at Ole Miss. Worked last year.

A formation in and of itself does not win a game. Regardless of what scheme the tigers were in or could have been in, the truth is that our lines were getting physically whipped on both sides of the ball. If you line is not effective, the skill players won't be very effective either. When we were on offense, Alabama was rotating 15 guys on the defensive line. When you have a line that big, that strong, that fast, and that fresh, you're up shite creek without a paddle if you don't have the horses to match up with them. For now, we don't have that kind of player or depth. Alabama is probably a work in progress and as of right now may be playing the best football in the country.

Last year we had a DC that kept our inept offense in the game (16 Points in regulation would have won it last year). We lost that DC and dumbasses on this site were celebrating, how's that working out now.

Without a DC that hold teams to 14 points, we better figure out how to move the ball against 8 man fronts effectively.

Players have everything to do with making those schemes workable.

You can criticize Miles all you want about the game itself. But I'm pretty sure he was trying to win the game.

3rd and 16 down 17 points in the third quarter and he's running I formation? Can anyone defend that defeatist line of thinking?

1. Perhaps the stale scheme contributes to Bama's success? This is an annual thing you know, and not an abbération. The OL perhaps never had a chance if Bama knew what was coming almost every play.
2. The talent argument is such BS Bc it ignores the fact that other less talented teams have scored points on Bama and beaten Bama. If it was strictly a talent issue then Bama would never lose. But look at the teams that score points on them--none run what LSU runs.
3. From a logic standpoint, Bama lines up HUGE LBs and DL. Why not make those big frickers run a bit? Why not try to confuse them, misdirect them, tire them out?

Yes, it concerns me that Miles is one stubborn mofo.

Holds us back from greatness.

He has to realize we have lost 5 straight to them.. who cares how close the games were.. put up more points, other teams can do it.. so can we. Other teams putting up more points do not have stronger offensive line play. I can't by that.. I believe LSU can and should do better.

We still have to put up points.. we lost late to Bama on swing passes..

we score 16 points and 6 came off a fluke turnover..

10 drove down points vs Bama aint going to get shite done
