I dont disagree with:

quote:

Lets be honest. 97% of the time, if an athlete transfers, its because of playing time

BUT

Most kids transfer because of a log jam at a position. This is WIDE OPEN an many positions. Just fishy thats all...

I'm LMAO at all the goobers on here that take Mainieri's version of this (or any other story really) as gospel. Seriously?

it would be pretty bold for PM to lie about it. And would be pretty easy for Zardon to dispute his claim.

being told that he didn't have have a spot on a very wide open team next year has to be crushing for zardon. paul treated him like crap the whole year this past year.

Man, we have some idiots on here. What is Manieri supposed to do? Play the inferior ballplayers? Zardon was awful. He clearly showed he was unable to play infield. What should CPM do, put him at first and bench our best hitter? Zardon left because he wanted to be guaranteed a starting spot. Manieri would have been a fool to agree to that. Also, how would he be able to recruit players if he couldn't promise them a shot? "Come to LSU. All the lineup spots are taken for next year because I guaranteed playing time to guys like Zardon no matter how badly they play."

Curious as to your take on how exactly CPM "treated Zardon like crap all year"? CPM gave him several game opportunities to play first & third & he flopped, miserably at third. At first base he was beat out by a much more consistent, better hitter. And this was just Zardon's game experiences. I doubt he did not have more opportunities at multiple practices in both the fall & during the season. Who would you have him replace then? If Zardon approached Skip with this type of demand, if that is the case as speculated, what exactly do you see Skip telling him back?

ok but that was last year. this year is a VERY wide open team... 1 returning starter and he couldn't find a spot?

oh well, CPM is the coach. his ship to steer.

It started before the first game of the year when Maineiri said he felt comfortable with 7 of the positions, with third base being the only question mark. This was the week before the opener. Paul Mainieri lost Zardon when he traveled Bryce Jordan to UGA instead of Danny.

Thats sad when a player lets it bother him so much and is so insecure about his ability, that he decides to transfer rather than win a job. Well good luck at Nova. Hopefully the coach there guaranteed him a spot.

Skip would have been a much bigger a-hole

...and then told Zardon to kick rocks

Dude what has PM done to you or your mom? Geez. Why do you always twist what he does and says to the worst you can make it? You're a clown.

So is PM at fault for telling a kid the reality of the situation?

I don't disagree with anything you said and, in fact, strongly believe a Coach owes it to a kid to give them an honest assessment of their prospects with the team so the player can make an educated choice as to whether to stay with the team or seek greener pastures. However, you are presuming the conversation went down just as described by Mainieri and I not willing to make that assumption.
