Exactly what PM wants.

He's the only one with a voice in this.

I don't blame him for bolting anyway.

Guess we will see. I fully hold him responsible for alienating zardon. Byrd is the interesting case to me

Which is why I can't blame Z for leaving... or at least confronting PM about playing time. We don't know how it went down. All we have is PM's version.

Agreed. Just calls him up and says "I'm out" without having any place lined up to go? Odd.

I'm with Josh, Mainieir never had confidence in Zardon, so it's not a loss to him. Byrd is the head scratcher.

He's not throwing the kid under the bus whatsoever. Mainieri is 100% right. He can't make any promises to the kid. Zardon doesn't deserve shite. If he wants to be an every day player, he has got to earn it in Fall practice, and in practices right before the regular season. Seems like he didn't want to take on the challenge so he's gone. Wish him the absolute best, but in Zardon's case, he wasn't a loss at all.

don't really have any problems with his comments. How can you promise a guy like Zardon a starting spot? I know he played last year, but he wasn't good enough to hold a spot for.

Zardon is a fool, plain and simple. So he didn't get the PT he wanted on a loaded lineup? Ok, great. You are entering your junior season with all but assured a starting spot in a lineup that lost 7 guys? SO you have the opportunity to start at a program with more exposure than you can ever get but you're going to quit and go to an NAIA school with zero exposure? This kid sounds soft as frick, sorry. I honestly don't even care if Mainieri is a prick. He's obviously doing something right with all the players he's had making their way through the professional ranks.

Ehh... the more I think about it, the more I'm not so sure.

It was no secret that he wasn't Mainieri's favorite by any means. Junior year is the most important for a college baseball player. He's starting fresh, closer to home and will likely rape NAIA pitching enough to get drafted in the middle rounds.

Zardon is only hurting himself by leaving to an NAIA school, just my opinion

I could understand that from Zardon. I mean he's going to be a junior.

If he can't handle competition at the college level, what's he going to do when he's piddling around in A ball wondering why management doesn't want to give him a shot? Kid is soft

Well we can always reach out to Virginia's coach. He won a lot CWS games the past 5 years.

You have no idea what was said beyond PM saying Zardon wanted a guaranteed spot. If PM wants that as his scape goat, fine. But 2 things. First, why say it even if it is true other than to put blame on the player. And second, players make these types of comments often during summer meetings in some form or another. They say they want to play every day. They say the want the chance to be an every starter... to more straight forward. Like, I'm in my 3rd year. I think I should start every day. And coaches usually just coach speak their way out of it. These kids go back home and hear how great they are how few chances they get. So a coach usually just brushes off this talk. The goal is to get as many people into fall and let things play out there. You don't have to tell the player that specifically.

I don't think it's as much handling the competition as it is dealing with Mainieri.

This is nothing new in any sport. Sometimes, players and coaches just need new air.

Cause I'm sure he'd drop everything and come running the second we called.

at the NAIA level, though? If he feels his future is in baseball, he's killing himself with this move

Why? If you can play scouts will find you no matter where you are.
