It had to be there or JUCO if he was going to play.

Maybe his goal is to just finish out his college career getting a lot of ABs and PT. The exposure of a program like LSU does him no good if he's the red headed stepchild left off the travel squad.

Some kids prefer to be everyday player at any level instead of sub.

I mean, I'm sure he doesn't want to sit out a year. Scouts go to those games too.

if he has any interest in getting drafted, playing every day in NAIA will be a disservice to him as opposed to even being a spot starter with pro scouts in attendance regularly. And if he's so lacking in confidence he can't find a starting spot on a team that lost almost the entire batting order, that really says a lot of his future as a baseball player. To me, it sounds like his own arrogance has gotten the best of him.

You really think getting 75 ABs here is better than him getting 200+ somewhere else. You act like he's playing in some far off place. He's in South Florids for crying out loud. There are plenty of scouts there.

getting 75 ABs
Most of them would have likely been against NAIA caliber schools anyway.

Wrong

41 total NAIA players drafted this year. good luck to him. Highest position player drafted was the 15th round. I don't feel like looking up the stats, but I'd be willing to bet the chance a player that transferred from a D1 program down to NAIA getting drafted any higher isn't exactly great

its probably easier to stand out, and they know he played at LSU. So if he totally rakes, he's going to check out.

I know it would take more work, but I think we can both agree that the round hardly means shite in the MLB draft. I'd rather see the bonuses.

the thing you seem to be missing is he was asking for a guarantee of a starting spot. not that he was told, no you're riding the bench again. i don't think a guy like mainieri likes being strong armed by a kid that is not a returning starter for a promise like that. if the kid was a phenom, ok, but he just sounds like a very soft player if he'd rather quit that earning a spot, a spot that he has a very good chance of securing. i'm sorry, you can justify his move however you want, but i think that says a lot about his character and his acceptance to competition.

He along with many others thought that last year.

If you're Zardon, you're thinking either take a chance and deal with PM another year with who knows how much leash with 4 (5 if Byrd was still around) guys for PM to chose over you. Or go to a place where you standout and definitely get PT and a look from scouts. If he's serious about the next level, it's not the worst choice he could make.

only time will tell. and clearly we're not going to agree, but i'd take my chances on earning a spot on a wide open lineup at a top 5 program with all the exposure in the world than trying to make my mark in NAIA and hoping i play well when scouts are in attendance

That's fine and all. But my question to you now is if it was true that Zardon asked Mainieri assurance of being an every day player, would you rather Mainieri say yes and have a good chance of looking like a liar if Zardon does not get what he wanted? It is what it is and Mainieri didn't want make any promises to anybody. Unfortunately that's not what Zardon wanted to hear.

so almost every single game. either he can hack it or he can't. obviously he seems scared he can't at LSU

It's kind of funny when you think about it. Byrd as well.

Sure kids have questions for coaches all the time and nobody deserves a guaranteed spot by not performing. Often it comes down to HOW the coach answers that question. With empathy, hopefulness, motivation, and encouragement or with anger and agitation. Don't know what happened here in these two instances.Sometimes kids see the writing on the wall like M Johnson and Avery. Both these two seem different.
