One more thing. I had a head coach in HS that handled all that in a very different way. It was not his place to get emotional with players. He was 100% focused on what was either going on on the field or about to go on. That was on either the coordinators or position coaches. Worked very well.

The cameras do not catch everything. I can remember, but not link, some pretty spirited discussions with players after stupid personal fouls.

Agreed. I think it was during the UGA game in 2013, Les tracked a couple of guys back to bench after some dumb penalties and was quite animated with them.

It's What Nicky did, and still does. I guess.

There's a difference between being a raving lunatic like Will Muschamp or Frank Martin and actually exhibiting some degree of emotion that displays a passion for winning the game.
Amen! Everything in life isn't as extreme as the rant typically portrays. There are degrees between a bump on a log and psychotic.

If we're going to use other coaches as examples, what about Coach K? I don't see him as a raving lunatic, but he certainly gets passionate on the bench and I don't think his competence as a coach is in question. There are numerous examples of passionate coaches that motivate their teams who would not be described as over the top. I'm having a hard time coming up with examples of successful coaches that are as "calm" during poor play as CLM or CJJ.

They respect the man. Hard for some to believe. I guess that's why Les is such a fan of Bo because he was easy on his players.

JJ: yes, please get mad
Miles: no

JJ shows no emotion at all and does very little on the court coaching. I'm not seeing him doing in game adjustments or lighting a fire under his players' asses. He needs to do something. Right now he is a statue on the sidelines, and I think it makes the players too relaxed

My only problem with that link as an example is that it was 5 years ago and the "passion" is over an officials call, not player performance.

I'm saying that - save for 2011 - LSU under Miles has always been a sloppy, penalty-ridden football team. That discipline starts at the top. Bottom line. Miles basically coaches like the "cool uncle" - the players love him, sure, but there's no discipline whatsoever on the field.

I don't know about yelling at players but I do agree here. There needs to be more coaching up during game time. Even on successful plays there are usually areas that execution could've been better. I don't see a strive for perfection especially on offense.

Bill Belichick? I hear the team has the ball deflater guy come around several times during the game to check his pulse.
Tom Landry was dead for 3 years before anybody noticed.

Belichick? In my opinion is a perfect example of a coach very much involved in the game and passionate over performance without necessarily losing his mind like Boom. To compare his involvement during the game with Miles really made me chuckle.

Landry, I agree. Excellent CEO type surrounded himself with the best players and staff.

You can see the fear in the Refs eyes when they have some of these coaches in their face after a bad call. And we wonder why some teams dont have as many penalties. Same with players who screw up

Sorry. But I see no good coming out of screaming at and belittling a player in public. Behind closed doors now that's a different story.

Your an idiot if you think getting mad equals competitive desire.

I can show you extremely competitive people who maintain a cool demeanor.

Da' f'k??? Do you have any comprehension skills?? There are some fans that have competed in sports that feel a little discipline is good. The closest thing to discipline that I have seen from Les after a player makes a knucklehead play is speaking to him privately and tenderly coming off of the field. Les has a confused look on his face like he doesn't understand what happened and needs the player to explain it to him. Then the player fades into the sideline and Les goes back to showing off his Nati ring on his chin with a vacant look on his face. This is the kind of shite that goes on every game! He's like a big friendly bear with no fangs or claws!

And save me the horse shite that fans or obsessed with yelling. Either you are stupid or just making excuses again for Miles.
