I'm saying that - save for 2011 - LSU under Miles has always been a sloppy, penalty-ridden football team. That discipline starts at the top. Bottom line.

Miles basically coaches like the "cool uncle" - the players love him, sure, but there's no discipline whatsoever on the field.

none of this has anything to do with whether Les yells at them or not.

I've seen Les get after guys in practice in Youtube videos. I don't have a problem with his demeanor at all. I love it. I just have a problem with our offensive approach. It's really that simple.

The original thread was meant for Basketball after the CofC game...

But, there are parallels to football. Especially when B Harris called that timeout with 3 seconds left, CLM was asking the ref for an explanation instead of "arguing" his point. Maybe that will be acceptable to some of these people on the tread.

I'll be he first to admit the leaks completely screwed LSU for that game.

LSU under Saban wasn't all that disciplined of a team either. So, I guess more your point is that LSU historically isn't well disciplined, right?

Also, they were 68th nationally in 2011, so the bottom half. Edit to add: Which was not as good as the three previous years.

I don't hate Les at all. And idk shite about practice. I'm talking about when you have 2 holdings and a false start in 1 drive and are backed up on your own 2 yard line for a 2nd and 20. A little emotion never hurt anyone..

Dude Les is just not like that. He shows emotion, to say he doesnt ever is just wrong. you dont see him going crazy in an angry way. Diff people respond to diff things. Sometimes encouragement is a good motivator for people, not tearing them down.

Again, you guys are just grasping at something that isnt there.

Moron booster running his mouth before Ole Miss game was an embarrassment to the program.

as someone who played basketball, and coached basketball, more times than not, kids react better to emotional stability than anger and/or tirades, especially in front the fans and media

and most of these guys are still kids

You can do this without yelling and throwing a fit FWIW

The most obvious thing to everyone who watches LSU is that when on offense, we seem to jack up the first three point shot that we can get off. Open or not, as long as it isn't going to be blocked we're going to jack it up. Why bother with looking for a good shot near the goal, right? Followers of LSU basketball have been griping about this for a couple of years now. So here's the rub...

last night I caught a small part of the post game show. JJ comments that we are shooting the ball too quick in the possession and need to be more patient. Well that comment is exactly correct, but you are the head coach. If the ball is being shot to quickly call a timeout and make sure your team understands what is expected. At the very least take the player out of the game who is shooting too quickly. Just standing there and thinking that thought to yourself isn't working. It's been a problem for 3 years now!!!!

Ill admit, I never like the jones hire. he can recruit, but this isnt the same as football. Just getting a couple of good players should get you past some of these teams hes lost to over the last few years.

But this is still related to football and LSU's ability to go out find great coaches under Alleva's watch.

I agree with all of this

still has nothing to do with getting mad and yelling at people

Again... this man is correct. Excuse me for using the word get "mad" or "yell" in my opening thread.

I watched Les laugh when Harris threw a pass to an offensive lineman after pressure got to him against Alabama this year.

I'm like all you can do is laugh? Show some kind of emotion that you actually care the play was a total shite show.

well you seemed to type the OP with great emotion and it appears you didn't really get your point across very well

which kinda illustrates what I've been trying to say

Here's what we can all agree on, if LSU basketball was well coached and winning no one would care what JJ did on the sidelines. But when this team constantly underachieves and drops games to less talented teams going back to 2 seasons ago, the no emotion coaching approach ain't working.

I don't think it has anything to do with emotion.

He just isn't a very good coach.

The insight into the Gridiron Club thread the other day was eye opening. The fact that UGA fired Richt under the radar goes to show you how terribly this was handled. I wanted Miles replaced, but for frick's sake, the rumor mill was just dragging him through the mud and may have cost us Jimbo in the long run.

Yea... this took the cake for me. While we're getting our brains beat in, no less.

There needs to be more fire. I think Coach O has definitely injected some especially with our D-line. You can see it on the field. I remember a reporter when O and Steele were hired ask Les if the Orgeron hire was because he felt the program needed new energy. Les scoffed and laughed it off.

The offense has looked like they've been in some kind of hypnotic trance for too long now.

ETA: OP's right. The bball team has that same "look" about them.

Coaches rant at press conferences to put on a show for everyone but the team.
