Big enough to play the middle?

Seems he's getting there, but I don't know for a fact how close he is. Such an athlete they can go "out of the mold" some.

He's putting in the work because he wants on that field.

There is always more to the situation than meets the eye. Talent was not an issue. He was our second best MLB and would have started next year.

LB depth.

Olb: jones-Alexander-voohries
MLB: beckwith-Feist-Patterson
Olb: Louis-Riley

Yeah anyone labeling this kid as a bust already is a damn fool. LSU just wasn't the right fit for him.

He'll be a stud wherever he ends up. Wish him the best.

He was the 3rd best MLB prospect and 60th best overall prospect and couldn't get on the field at a program with almost no lb depth . He has definitely underachieved.

Again he if he had the talent to be a stud he would've gotten some time on the field

true, seldom does any player leave a big program and thrive somewhere else.

Wish him the best unless he goes to an SEC school. Wish he would have worked out at LSU.

juco guy could transfer by then.. or just get the very best mlb of the class and start as a fresh

Any top ILB JUCO guys? Nevermind, I just checked. We have to wait until later in the season to see if a good JUCO ILB arises, would rather not have a true freshman as the sole backup to Feist in 2016.

so- if he is not a bust- what is he?

Less than 10 plays last year determined his label as sophomore instead of a redshirt freshman. Would you seriously label a redshirt freshman a bust? Feist still hasn't done anything yet, but because he was over Garrett as a 4th year junior, that automatically means he's better? Did y'all not remember anything from last year with Beckwith and Welter?

Maybe he couldn't handle the fact that he was third string, but I'd highly doubt somebody with his speed, power, insticts, and lateral quickness, would be beat out for long, ala Beckwith. I mean people wondered about him when we trotted out Welter for the first several games last year and all it took was for him to get on the field and learn.

This guy was all LSU during his recruitment, and labeling this soon to be sophomore a bust, as some have done, doesn't make any got damn sense. I truly hope he and LSU hash things out, he goes to JUCO, gets some on the field experience, and comes back here more mature and ready to contribute game one in 2016.

If not, we likely have an unknown in Feist as starter and a true freshman as backup for the MLB position.

Hope so too. Most of us don't know the details of why but if he can come back then that is great.

Don't be surprised if it was a choice based on impending disciplinary action for off field activities.

Beckwith isnt going to be projected 2nd or 3rd round. Unless he takes a major step back, he is a 1st rounder. I would almost call that a lock.

Wonder if there was any stipulations about transferring to other SEC teams?

Let's pump the brakes a bit...

Beckwith is a beast and will be a beast this upcoming season for us as well. But do you know how many ILBs have been drafted in the 1st round recentl in the last 5 drafts? 5. And all but 2 were taken in the 2nd half of the first round and only 1 was taken too 10, Luke Kuechly at #9.

Beckwith could be 1 of the top rated ILB for the draft and still could go in the mid-late 2nd round. MLB is just 1 of those positions that doesn't have a high value in the draft, like OG, Center, and Safety. And, with it being a passing league, teams run more 3-4 and focus on getting after the QB with versatile players. And ILBs typically aren't that versatile, except for a rare few like Keuchly, Hightower, Collins, etc. Only a few ILBs in the NFL possess the talent and ability to be good vs the run and pass. It's extremely rare to find a ILB with athletic ability to stuff the run, guard TEs, slots, RBs, and get after the QB when blitzing. And have the football smarts and IQ to read the plays, play multiple spots and do all of those things at a high level.

It's way more realistic to say that Beckwith will be drafted in round 2 or 3 than saying he's a lock for round 1. And I'm a huge Beckwith fan and think he's really good and might be our best player on D. But, considering how the NFL values the position he plays in the draft and that he's only started 7 games for us so far and is still sort of an unknown on a national level, he most likely will go 2nd or 3rd round.

Now, Steele does bring a lot of diff schemes to the table and if he lets Beckwith move around a bit (OLB 3-4, DE is pass rushing situations, etc, doubtful though because we are so thin at ILB now) and let him blitz a lot more, he could improve his stock. But there are just so few ILBs taken in the 1st round that it will be tough for him to be a 1st round pick.
