Everyone hating on the expansion is missing that we might literally/should get home playoff games. That's inansw if you think about it.

I doubt it. They will find some way to use the major bowl or the New Years 6 bowls.

Aka Admitting it kills the passion and tension of the regular season.

Continuing the move to turn it to the NFL lite.

12 is too much.

8 was perfect; enough to make the regular season still mean something.

No you don't.
UGA last year wins the SEC by going undefeated (better record) and being higher ranked. They get a top seed, and a bye.
Bama gets in due to being 11-1, highly ranked at-large.

In new format, top 4 Conference champs get the bye and 1 to 4 seeds

This should allow P5 conferences to schedule less out of conference games.

Jeez…

Why not just go to 8 teams.

Giving the top 4 Byes simply improves their chances of winning.

It is what it is.

How long have you been an LSU fan, can I ask? When I was a kid in the 80's, the passion was for beating certain teams on the field, and ultimately making a big bowl (the Sugar being the prize you wanted). Nobody focused on being #1, or things like that.

We turned that corner with 2011. LSU went undefeated, including a win at Alabama. The "college football" thing to do then, would have been finding the best team we hadn't played yet, and put them in the bowl facing us.

Let me tell u boys that buy that bullshite. The year Auburn won the West and crushed bama but Bama went on to win the Natty, Bama had to play 3 top 25 teams in 4 week period. LSU, Mississippi State then Auburn. All very very physical game. They got by LSU in tight game, should have lost to Mississippi State but they missed chip shot FG or something and then got crushed by Auburn as they were beat to hell and had lots of injuries. Auburn lost several key player in Bama game then lost to Georgia. Meanwhile Bama got 8 weeks to get healthy for playoffs.

So if you think 12 game playoffs will be chalk you are an idiot.

Is it likely that the same few teams will get to the "Final Four"/championship game in a 12 team playoff? Yep. But that doesn't mean there aren't more that 4 teams deserving of playing for a championship in the playoffs.

2017 Auburn is probably the best example of why it is needed. That year Auburn beat Georgia and Alabama in November, and won the SEC West. They were ranked #2 in the CFP poll at the end of the regular season. Had the season ended after the Alabama game Auburn would have been in the playoff. However, their "reward" for beating Alabama was a rematch with UGA in the SECCG. Auburn lost that game. As a result, Alabama got the final spot in the CFP. The ONLY reason Alabama made the playoff is because Auburn was forced to play a 13th game Alabama was not. Thus, Alabama was able to "jump" a team to whom they lost by literally doing nothing more than sitting at home and not playing a game.

I'm not saying Alabama wasn't one of the best teams in the country and deserving of a playoff spot. But it was complete chicken shite they got in ahead of a team to whom they lost simply by not having to play an extra game. Fairness would have been both Alabama and Auburn making a playoff.

On the flip side, had Oklahoma St. beaten Baylor in the Big 12 championship game last season they likely would have gotten into the playoff ahead of undefeated Cincinnati when in reality BOTH teams should have made the playoffs if they weren't forced to play an extra conf. championship game as a "reward" for a good season.

It doesn't matter that the same 3-4 teams will more likely than not win the championship. The playoffs should be about rewarding teams who had a great regular season the OPPORTUNITY to compete for a championship in a playoff...even if I agree that 12 teams is probably 4 too many

I understand most of these games will go as expected. But it does 1) keep a lot of opt out of bowl game kids from doing that, and 2) yea you'll see some upsets which will be super fun. It'll also force some inter-conference play beyond the regular season which is cool, and the OK States and 8&4's of the world will get their chance.

You think guys are going to quit opting out? Some high-rated draft pick will absolutely opt-out and leave his team out to dry. It is definitely going to happen.

8 teams is all we need. we can make playoffs annually WITHOUT having to win west or sec. 11-2 gets you in. but 12? yeah we are a lock then for playoffs annually now. but yes this makes SECCG weak. some teams may opt out of playing it to stay healthy for playoffs. crazy.

Glad they are expanding finally but Surprised by 12. Should have been 8.

8 covers all conferences and at large teams. Nobody outside the top 10 should be in a playoff.

Heck has the 4 seed ever got past the first game?

I understand the financial reasons behind this. But damn, we can’t even find four worthy teams as it is. Now we’ll have to endure truly mediocre teams whining about being left out.

This is true but it will put to rest the argument about teams outside the SEC being able to compete with the SEC.

Time will prove it.
