Like baseball teams already do for midweek games?

The teams will need more than 85 players to finish the season...

I understand the financial reasons behind this. But damn, we can’t even find four worthy teams as it is.

Top six would have been pushing it but 12 pushes it over the cliff

Teams and fans are going to love having their top players knocked out of the playoffs by 12th seeds Utah, Indiana, k State, Arizona St etc!

If LSU can get one of the 12 spots it will be a good way to keep guys from skipping the bowl games.

Let me tell u boys that buy that bullshite. The year Auburn won the West and crushed bama but Bama went on to win the Natty, Bama had to play 3 top 25 teams in 4 week period. LSU, Mississippi State then Auburn. All very very physical game. They got by LSU in tight game, should have lost to Mississippi State but they missed chip shot FG or something and then got crushed by Auburn as they were beat to hell and had lots of injuries. Auburn lost several key player in Bama game then lost to Georgia. Meanwhile Bama got 8 weeks to get healthy for playoffs.

So if you think 12 game playoffs will be chalk you are an idiot.

I like this. No more bitching every year about teams getting left out. At this point, if you get left out it is what it is. Also opens the door for potential upsets.

They probably think this will help other shite conferences win something for change but in reality, it's just going to make the SEC kill it even more because more teams will get in increasing the odds.

People said that when we went to 4 teams…and you’ll still have people finishing 13-16 bitching that we need to copy the lower divisions and go to 16. The moral of the story…people love to and will always bitch.

Based on the format, the SEC will legit have 4 teams in the CFP each year. If not more….

Good chance we win before then. If not then we will definitely be a top seed in the new format

But only one gets a bye which will keep the importance of the championship game.

So, 8 extra teams that have no business being there and will get blown out instead of just the usual 1.
One point of view.

A different one is that your season isn't toast after one loss in a big game.
There are plenty of DANGEROUS teams every year, only a couple make it through with the required (currently, 1 loss) record. Sometimes you have teams emerge after a shaky start, or lose a key guy for a couple games, and currently your season is toast.

it's not the #4 seed that is dangerous, because they likely won a weak conference with a great record. It's the #7 seed, who developed over the course of the season into a damn strong team at the end.

Then we need to drop conference championship games. College kids shouldn’t be playing as many games as the NFL year in and out.

Well, many of them are getting paid like NFL players now, so I disagree.

But on the flip side you have to beat any good team you beat during the regular season again in the playoffs.Hell there is a scenario you could have to play a team 3 times if there is a conference championship still in place when this goes down

I would guess they might have to cut back on conference or nonconference games for the added playoff games. Is that a possibility?

4 highest ranked teams (Conference champs) get byes. So it is only 1 other game to get to 16. The other 8 play each other, 5-12, 6-11, 7-10, 8-9, games that could be on campus. So if those teams win out, 16 games is max.

Round 1 of the new playoff format will include on-campus games, per @CFBPlayoff.

5, 6, 7 and 8 will be playing at home.

they should really give the top 4 a bye or something, otherwise the regular season is greatly diminished

Top 4 highest ranked Conference Champs get top 4 seeds and first round byes. That keeps the regular season and winning a conference title to relevant and meaning something.

So Notre Dame by not being in a conference can't get a top 4 seed. Only an at-large/wildcard slot.

No you don't.
UGA last year wins the SEC by going undefeated (better record) and being higher ranked. They get a top seed, and a bye.
Bama gets in due to being 11-1, highly ranked at-large.
