Sources say that he had a workout up in Philly today. Chances are 99% that he will in fact sign and forgo his college career at LSU. They have until monday at midnight to get the deal done.

It's a shame that the slot restrictions Bud Selig put out on the teams in 07 have only made the system worse. LSU may lose it's top two pitchers in the 6th and 7th rounds for signing over 1.2 mill each respectively.

He's a friend of mine. I said this on multiple threads about him and ZVR. He will sign.

ETA: his bonus will range anywhere from 500k to around 900k... Nothing huge like ZVR's.

This has really been a foregone conclusion for weeks.

i talked to him about a month ago. he said they had offered him 825K and if he got 900K he was gone. I'm sure his bonus will be pretty nice

Honestly it's pretty pathetic if he's willing to sign for 500,000-700,000 coming out of highschool.

1.Drafted by the Phillies who are one of the richest franchises and could bargain for more than that easily.
2.He can play 3 years and become a instant top 5 round pick.
3.He has one of the best arm's in his class and if he can elevate his fastball 3-4 mph he would be a top 25 pick in 2012.

I don't know why coaches continue falling into this trap. OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO GUYS WHO WILL COME TO LSU and not guys drafted in the first 8 rounds that they pretty much know will sign pro contracts.

Mainieri's not known for doing this. These two kids were the cream of the crop this year in Louisiana. You have to sign them and hope for the best and not let them sign with someone like Tulane and risk them making it on their campus. If Mainieri starts passing up instate kids and going after tip tier out of state kids then we're in trouble.

Forgive me for not getting it, but can you please explain this point and how "slotting" has anything to do with LSU losing a player who signed for 1.2 million (and another who is reported to be near a high dollar deal)?

There's no guarantee for this. It's also possible that you go to college and your draft stock goes down.

What if he gets injured? There is no guarantee he adds 3-4 mph to his fb, maybe he finds Reggie's and freshman girls and adds 25 pounds instead. Maybe he just strait up wants to be a pro baseball player and LSU was just a good option to advance that in case he din't get drafted/offered enough money.

It sucks that he won't be pitching for the Tigers for three years... I agree with that, but not every elite athlete we sign in baseball or basketball has a dream of being part of the Tigers Hall of Fame. Either way, the baseball team will be alright.

all the more reason why i hate MLB they should at least make these kids attend college for a year or 2 like they do in fball and bsktball. I have no problem with the kid going and making his dollar but damn

Slotting has to do with the certain signing bonus a player can get in each round they were selected. There are restrictions that teams are supposed to follow by the commissiner but have not in the coming year. Just look at the Pirates 6th and 8th round selections and the Padres who spent $750,000 on their 10th round pick. I've never seen this much overspending in one draft.

Colvin in my opinion has one of the top 20 arms in HS this year. If he were to go to college and even has par and subpar years he would be drafted on talent alone higher in the draft.

I wouldn't be so quick to say he's gone. He didn't work out for the phils yesterday cuz I was with him. His chances of going to lsu are better than you think. And to the person that called out his mom. I'd shut up cuz if you don't think he read some of these things your crazy.

That's good to hear. I had heard from 2 sources that said he was in fact in Philly yesterday. If he's not up there it would seem like his chances are better to end up at LSU. Why go up there if your not looking to sign?

von ros signing didn't help lsu's chances as they were good friends and were gunna room together. but i say its 60/40 lsu right now.
