I wish the best for Brody. If he can get 7 figures as a 17-18 year old, more power to him.

He may never get that chance again. If he gets close to $1 million, I hope he really considers it and does what is best for himself. And, most likely, taking the money would be the best choice.

He can always come back and get a college degree if MLB doesn't work out. He won't always have the chance to make 7 figures for playing a game.

any thoughts on his role? He could probably come in and be a midweek starter and perhaps play his way into the SEC rotation.

Players turn down big time money every year, some players just want to go to college. Colvin is nowhere near a finished product, but has a big time arm. If he can improve on his control of his off speed pitches and fastball he could be a top draft pick one day.

I'm thinking more of a reliever, maybe moving Ott into a starter role, if Ott can be effective doing that.

He's going to be groomed as a reliever and will be a good one, but what I like about this kid is that he doesn't just pitch but is also as talented as a hitter.

He's got a college ready body and is strong for his age. If and when he fills out he will be an absoutle stud. Power arms like him don't come everyday. He'll deff contend for an outfield spot in the fall.

So much upside to this kid, will be a two way player to watch for the next three years if he makes it to LSU.

The Phillies still have 14.5 hours left. Keep your fingers crossed.

"I can't even imagine how much Colvin could increase his stock if he came to LSU for 3 years especially as a two way player and lit it up in college. I just don't want to see this kid get low balled like 500,000, sign, get injured and never make it out of the minors with no degree".

Yeah, because you need a degree or your life is over. Too bad it never worked out for that Bill Gates kid that dropped out of Harvard.

they should at least make these kids attend college for a year or 2 like they do in fball and bsktball.

Does the name Lebron James ring a bell with you?

That was under the old rule. Now, you have to be 19 and one year removed from high school.

why mess with what he's got going as a closer? I just don't see the reasoning behind that.

Most pitchers at this level want to be a starter. Can't imagine Mainieri not giving him a shot if Ott wants it. Coleman was used almost exclusively out of the pen in '08.

It's not like we have a solid starting rotation coming back. A closer serves no purpose if our starting rotation can't get us to the closer.

You are right, Coleman shouldn't have become a starter last year.....also if he could pitch 6 or 7 innings almost as well as he pitches 1 inning, well that wouldn't help the team at all either...i'm a dumbass.

Ranaudo: Friday night ace last year, will be a 1st round pick in next year's MLB Draft

Ross: solid pitcher, has good stuff

Bradshaw: ditto with Ross

and then you have a promising young pitcher in Chris Matulis who could make some noise

I'm not saying Ott will be a starter, but he'll get a chance, just like Ross and Bradshaw, who is to say that Ross and Bradshaw are good enough to be the Saturday and Sunday starters? They certainly dont have it locked down.

He got lucky with someone else's product. One in a billion.
