I wonder what Billy's 40 time was.

I think Fournette is going to be the best ever. But everyone needs to keep in mind Cannon played both ways. A LOT!
He was a hell of an athlete!

IDK. My folks were at the games during Cannon's era and watched Fournette play twice this year.

Dad said he hasn't seen this combination of power, agility and burst of speed since Cannon.

I'd like to see someone like Cannon with the training and nutrition of today and only playing running back.

LF7 looks like a fast version of Adrian Peterson

Peterson was faster in high school,
For what that's worth. I'd be surprised if Fournette runs a faster 40 at the combine as well. Though he his 10 pounds heavier than Peterson NOW.

I love Cannon, but there is no way in hell he could compete in today's game. If you put Leonard in the late 50's/early 60's he sets records no one ever would touch.

This is completely unnecessary. Completely different era, different understanding of football strategy, different understanding of dietary impact on performance and body, etc. Cannon was fantastic for 1950's. There was a Jim Brown at the time but he was considered a freak of nature.

I just enjoy all of our legends. No need to compare them.

Flip it around and let Cannon be brought up in today's age of weight training, diet, speed training, etc. The guy would be found very, very capable, to quote a great man.

It goes both ways, though. If you put LF in the 50's and 60's, he hasn't been lifting weights since middle school-maybe he hasn't been lifting weights at all, since a lot of coaches thought it made you musclebound. He's not going to football camps in the summer. He's probably 15 or more lbs lighter. He's playing defense and offense, so he's not getting any rest during the games. When the season ends, he's not working out unless he's playing another sport. Hell, he may be smoking cigarettes

Fournette is the most dominant offense skill player I've ever seen at LSU and I've been watching them since the late 60's.

In 2001, Josh Reed had 19 receptions, 293 yards and a TD in one game. I'd say that is the most dominating performance ever. He had over 120 yards receiving in 10/12 games and over 150 yards receiving in 6/12 games.

Reed was good but we'll never know how good some of these receivers could have been.

That's hypothetical. In reality, Reed was the most dominant offensive player ever at LSU, at least in 2001.

While participating in a track meet for LSU, Cannon ran and 9.4 100 yard dash, and threw the shot put 54 ft. Dont attempt to tell me that he couldnt play in todays SEC, thats total bullshite. The way these guys train for football year around and have a great nutrition program, he would be as good as any, better than most. Many guys in 2015 with all the advantages couldnt put up those numbers. He was as dominant of an athlete as there has been at LSU.

How about we let Fournette finish the season before declaring him the best RB to ever play at LSU.

Right now his resume is a very good freshman season and a GREAT start to his Soph. Still, you could argue that Justin Vincent's Freshman season was better than LF's. Until last year, Vincent had the freshman rushing record which he established in basically 8 games. It took LF 30+ more carries than Vincent to break the record by only 33 yards.

Could Fournette be the best to ever play at LSU? Absolutely. Is he? Not yet

I was at that game.

He dropped the first one and didn't miss another one.

Great win.

Yea, Im sure Jim Thorpe could compete in modern Olympic Games as well...

Billy Cannon couldnt even beat Caitlyn Jenner in a footrace, and he's a fricking woman.

Cannon:
quote:

In his Heisman year, he had 11 yards in 11 carries against Kentucky, 32 yards against Mississippi State, 35 yards against TCU and 48 yards against Ole Miss on Halloween night. His punt return that night was the only one of 31 in his career that produced a touchdown.

He was a 230 lb running back with world class speed, in an era when sports nutrition, sports medicine, and year round training didn't exist

Then maybe Cannon should have put up better stats. His Heisman winning year, he netted 598 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns with a 4.3 YPC average.

Billy Cannon

quote:

Mostly, they watched him perform mythic feats of strength. Once, in a track meet, he ran the 100-yard dash in 9.4 seconds and threw the shot 54 feet. He knocked a defender cold with a forearm. He took a kickoff back at Texas Tech as a sophomore, and when he reached the end zone, only nine seconds had run off the clock. The play stunned opposing players and mascot alike. "That damn black horse," teammate Scooter Purvis says, "he was even looking at Cannon."

In high school, they all heard, he got arrested for going downtown and beating up local gay men for fun

Lead the league in rushing in 1961.

He is also one of 14 players to score 5+ touchdowns in one game, and also holds the Oilers/Titans franchise record for most points (30) and most touchdowns (5) in a single game.
