Oh, there's a chance. Not that UW will beat LSU but that the Zebras will beat Tigers.

You guys obviously haven't witnessed PAC-10 officials!

SEC basketball officials = Pac Ten football officials.

Dawgman.com or washington.scout.com is the best Husky forum and the most active.

We have been bad for half a decade but with the exception of USC last year and a few games like that, don't get destroyed that often. A hallmark of the Ty Willy era was playing good teams tough the first half and keeping it close (or even being ahead) and then falling apart in the second half.

If we do have any chance of beating LSU, Sark will have had to need to fix the problem of second half collapses.

You guys had an off year last year. Do you expect everything to be 100% or is there any areas of weakness that could be explored on opening day on the road in the PNW? I should make it clear, I don't expect my dawgs to win because on paper they should get destroyed. Right now all we have is a curbed enthusiasm and some hope that things will be different this year.

I would be ecstatic if the new Husky era had our dawgs competitive right out of the gate. tOSU, USC, Boise State, BYU, California, etc all expected a cake walk and we either played them tough for the first half the game or beat them. If Sark can get the team to be competitive for a full 60 minutes, we might just win a few games this year.

Jake Locker is the key to our offense being successful... if you stop him, we are dead.

Thanks for the highlight video link - I didn't realize just how good of a runner Locker is.

I've read that Sark is going pro-set (like USC's offense); does that mean the read-option stuff, which is what we see Locker running a lot of in the video, is out the window? Or is Sark going to have some designed run plays to take advantage of Locker's strengths?

Actually there is always a chance...

Didnt Appy State vs Michigan convince us of anything?
Did Troy/Tulane from past 2 years not convince you?
ULM vs Bama...

so yes there is a chance, will it happen, more than likely not

Sure hope not-it would ruin a good week-long buzz we will be working on up there by gametime.

I had this exact same feeling right after Curly Hallman was fired at LSU, and Dinardo came in the next year. We played Texas A&M tough at at the beginning of the year for three quarters and I was beside myself!!! Hopefully for you and fellow Husky fans, your new coach will bring about a winning expectation in the next year or two and just being competitive isn't enough. Good luck!!!

And, no, I think this year's Tiger team is going to be out to prove something this year, that last year was a fluke, and are going to start things out right with a win in Seatlle.

BTW, welcome to The Rant!! Don't be a stranger after the game is played!! Stick around and enjoy some more of our Tiger Hospitality!!! You will find more than a few fans of different teams that may have joined to discuss certain games and have stuck around. Sit down, have a beer, and enjoy!!! We can always use one more Pac-10 fan to reel into the "SEC is greater than the Pac-10 because" discussions!

If we were coming off of a real successful year and went into the game complacent then I would say you have a better chance. We've all seen that kind of thing before. But Les is pissed and the players are pissed and I believe are chomping at the bit to put last year behind us. I would have to think that GT was more prepared to play LSU in the bowl game last season and they had some really good football players. Also, it was JJ's first real game that he was totally prepared for. Now he has a spring, a summer and a fall practice under his belt by the time he plays the Huskies. I think he will go in with supreme confidence and an offensive line ready to prove itself compared to a bunch of overhyped line from last year that I thought under performed (just my opinion) as well as a stellar running game and a defensive line that wants to erase the memory of last season. This will not be a game that LSU overlooks. Les has a history of getting his teams ready to perform against teams that we are suppose to take care of. We have not had any UAB or Miami of Ohio type games since he arrived that I can think of. Not that UW is a UAB. Great stadium and great atmosphere in Seattle will make for a good game.

Troy? Don't think the team was ready for that one.

Tulane year before that....

past 2 years vs Arkansas is another example and Ole Miss where JR had to throw last second touch down.

That 2007 highlight reel gets me ever so excited... unfortunately, we've now wasted 2 years (3 if you cound redshirt) on Locker under Ty's "coaching" and lack of a QB coach... Hopefully Sark will get it going, and fast...

Me personally I think LSU will come to play much like Oregon State/Arizona State did. I doubt they roll over like Arizona did

Before you get too enthusiastic, know that last year was a down year not because of talent but because of two things: bad defensive schemes from "newbie" Co-Defensive coordinators (remember we had Bo Pelini the year before who is now Nebraska's head coach) and a freshman quarterbacks.

This year we have Chavis as a DC. His defenses at Tennessee always ranked at the top of the NCAA with many top 5 defenses and he didn't have the talent on defense at Tennessee as we have here at LSU. I'm expecting a very tough, cohesive defensive unit this year. Your only hope is that, since it's new schemes, they may not gel right away (and it's a very slim hope at that ... the players love the new schemes and are very excited about their new defense).

As for quarterback, we're hoping Jordan Jefferson is the answer. He performed extremely well vs. Georgia Tech in the Peach Bowl last year. I hope he continues along that course. Also, despite Jarred Lee's miscues on offense, he is very talented. He was a freshman last year and it definitely showed on the field. I expect great things from him as he gets more seasoned.

The rest of the offense is pretty solid so even if we do *somehow* give you a gift TD or two, I still expect us to score and score often :)

The big question is your offense. Do you expect much from them? BTW, nice video of Jake Locker. He reminds me of Archie Manning scrambling around like that. Has he ever faced an SEC defense? Speed kills

You've probably looked it up already but here are some of Jordan Jefferson's highlights from the Peach Bowl Game on youtube.

If you'll notice in the video, that was Locker as a freshman running around Ohio State and USC. If you recall, they had two of the best defenses that year in the nation...

Will he be able to run that like? Doubt it. USC's speed was able to stop him from hitting the corners. But he was able to break free a few times which caused some trouble.

Edited: Against Ohio State, Locker had 103 yards on 14 carries. Against USC (who was faster than Ohio State), Locker had 50 yards on the ground (not sure on # of carries).

I realized the video was from 2 years ago. I looked up his stats ... what happened to him last year? He only played 4 games.

2007: 11 Games, 155-328-15 for 2062 yds, 14 TDs, 17 sacks, 105.01 QB Eff. Rating
2008: 4 Games, 50-93-0 for 512 yds, 1 TD, 10 sacks, 103.55 QB Eff. Rating

By comparison

Jared Lee stats:
2008: 11 Games (started 8), 143-269-16 for 1873 yds, 14 TDs, 8 sacks, 116.9 QB Eff. Rating

Jordan Jefferson stats:
2008: 7 Games (started 2), 36-73-1 for 419 yds, 4 TDs, 9 sacks, 112.9 QB Eff. Rating

Detailed game by game QB stats

I honestly don't think Locker is going to be a big threat.

Like I said I think Washington comes to play. If LSU over looks them and does not come to play also it will be a closer than expected game or Washington can pull the shocker.
That said LSU should have too much talent right now to let that happen. C Scott should have 150+ yards against Washington D which is 2-3 years from doing anything.

With Jake Locker playing healthy, anything is possible but LSU has just too much firepower for a newly renovated U-Dub team.
