You do realize young players have a good chance of improving right? If this happens:
QB: major upgrade
RB: upgrade (Copeland is our starter at FB. We lost a backup)
WR: Pretty much non-factor last year. Upgrade due to QB play
TE: push
OL: upgrade with Collins reaching potential
DL: Push. Lost Brockers. Mingo and Montgomery another year of improvement with the Freak getting better as well.
LB:Upgrade to level of talent increasing
DB: Downgrade. Nothing drastic as we have great talent, but won't be as dominant as last year IMO.

we should have a better offense and a not as good defense. the matter of degree will determine if we are as good or not. mett really is the key.

the emergence of La'el Collins and the O-line is the key.

Mett is key, and so is the O-line DEPTH.

the rest is plenty good enough.

I think the RB's will be even better. same guys, plus Hill, will be better than last season, due to their own growth, and the improved passing.

I think we are going to be better than last year.
QB- Upgrade
RB-Upgrade(Everyone is back)
WR- Push(lose RR, Landry steps in)
TE- Pus
OL- Upgrade(Everyone but Blackwell is back)
DE-Upgrade(Sam and Mingo... enough said)
DT- Push(Lose Brockers, but enough talent here)
LB- Upgrade(Minter will be a tackling machine)
DB- Push

Yes, we lost 3 key players, but younger players will be extremely improved from last year.

Too much optimism around LSU football leads to this thread

Seriously? What is the point? So if we don't do as good, you can say i told you so?

If that's the truth than you're a douche

Are you telling me that our DB's in 2011 Had more talent than 2010? Was 2010 DB's a better unit? No. Still, they had more talent. Maybe my argument is a little complicated for you to understand...

DL - downgrade

Does the name Anthony Johnson come to mind? Although not as proven as Brockers obviously, but he is supposed to be the next big thing.

Agree, I will say that the QB being the most important position on the field is a HUGE upgrade. If Mett is just 50% better than what we had last year, this will make up for anything else we may have lost elsewhere.

it's not a case of what lsu has coming back. it's what lsu has coming back COMPARED TO everyone else. in that sense, lsu is in better shape than pretty much everyone in the country. plus, lsu's schedule is easier than last year.

on paper, this should be a banner year for lsu.

QB - upgrade

think everyone agrees with this one

quote:

RB - push ( lost Stampley, gained Hill)

Upgrade - we return everyone which means those guys are a year more experienced and should be better in terms of development than last season.

quote:

WR - downgrade (lost Randle, no new incoming stars)

Randle will be hard to replace, but I strongly believe Dural will be the deep threat that Randle was. And the returning guys will be much more productive with a better passer.

quote:

TE - push

Agreed

quote:

DL - downgrade (same as WR's, lost Brockers and same people from last year are back)

Push, we lose Brockers and replace him with Freak. Our returning DL, like RBs should be better than they were last season.

quote:

LB - Upgrade (strictly regarding talent, this is an upgrade even though it is still not a proven group)

Agreed

quote:

DB - Major downgrade (obvious major loss of Claiborne, but many people are seriously overlooking the loss of Taylor and Brooks. We still have a vast pool of talent in our secondary this year, but this is the same principal as DL and WR. Major talent losses with everybody else coming back).

Wouldn't call it a major downgrade, but you're right...losing Taylor and Brooks really hurts. There is just as much talent in this defensive backfield as last year...it's just unproven talent.

I think the thing you are forgetting most of all is development. OBJ as a sophomore should be better than OBJ as a freshman. Simon as a junior should be better than Simon as a sophomore. And so on. I think the talent is just as good, if not better than last year. These kids are not satisfied, they are getting better every day.

Dont forget Raso on the DL. He performed well in the limited role he played last year and he will have more of a contribution this year.

The upgrade ay QB will not allow this to be a downgrade position.

Why wouldn't this group be better than they were a years ago especially if teams can't stack the line against us?

Copeland is a boss. He wore guys out towards the end of last year. Don't feel we will truly miss Stampley.

Sure we might on paper be a downgrade at WR, Safety, etc but I don't really buy that. Doesn't the improvement Ford made at the end of the season technically make him an improvement this year over last year? We have a bunch of young guys that you can't consider a push just because they were here last year.

And think of it this way. When you look at WR and say it is a downgrade that means we aren't as good at that position and will be less productive. But even if it is a downgrade which I don't think is accurate the WR's will almost surely have better numbers. So their affect on the games will be as if it was an upgrade.

And like it has been mentioned the better offense will benefit the entire defense in less time on the field.

All those downgrades are basically borderline (meaningless) downgrades too.

We lost 3 extremely productive players before last year.

Claiborne: I think Tharold Simon is gonna stup up big next year, I think he is physically gifted, and has shown he has ball hawking instincts.

Brockers: There is always someone ready to step up and be the top DT. I think Logan will be dominant, and Freak/Ego/Downs will also be big

BRandon Taylor: ; I think the key is replacing the leadership he brought to the field. I think Reid is ready tot take that role on.

The other thing to consider here is that players are going to emerge. We have no idea who the next big Tiger star COULD be.

Who could have ever predicted Tyrann Mathieu's rise to stardom?

At the start of his career, Morris Claiborne was little-known.

Did we really think Odell Beckam Jr. would show such flashes of brilliance as a freshman?

Someone is going to step up their game, whether it's a newcomer or a 2nd stringer moving into the limelight. It will be someone coming out of nowhere.
