In other words, King sucks at strategic planning.
The Univeristy Strategic Plan is led by the Provost.

But is there any doubt that the timing and content of that letter is specifically to remind football fans of their place.
YES THERE IS DOUBT. Seriously how are some of yall so ignorant to this? LSU has been working on the Strategic Plan for some time, read: before football season started. I know this because I was personally in meetings discussing it.
It recently went public. I got mine in the mail not long ago. This letter is timed to the public dissemination of the Strategic Plan. Not everything LSU does is to appease each pea-brained football fan in this state.

WHY WOULD YOU HATE ON THIS?
Not hating so much on the content, just the timing, after the shite show this week, is an obvious dig at the fans and he's telling them (us) to STFU Joe and O ain't going anywhere. He doesn't give one single shite about the game day experience or fielding a competitive team, and apparently doesn't care about the resulting lost revenue either.

quote:This is incredibly ignorant and dumb, at the same time. Some of you idiots believe LSU is a football team with a school.
You are either young or really old. and you dont remember how LSU was pre Mark Emmeret. Mark Emmeret, made this university what it is today because he knew the success of the football team would bring in money to the university. And the university has had its best run in its history.

Are you intentionally being dense? This is a letter about the ACADEMIC and STRATEGIC priorities of the University, which is tied to the strategic plan. You can make the argument that success in athletics helps the University, which is true, but that's not what this letter is about. It would actually be kind of strange and eyebrow-raising for LSU President to mention football when discussing the strategic plan that was just released.
There are reasons to dislike him, but it appears you are just looking for a reason to bitch. LSU about is more than it's football team. I wish more people could see that.

I provided actual documentation from Emmert's time, where is your documented history? Please show me a Strategic Plan with his name on it that emphasizes athletics.

I just want to officially say that I do not think that what King says in this letter is bad. My anger for this situation caused me to freak out a little bit.
But King still needs to be fired. We need an overhaul.

you sound like you became a LSU fan during the 07 run.
quote:
So, that makes 17 years since LSU boldly set the market for a new football coach as it did when it hired Saban from Michigan State in 1999 for $1.2 million. During the negotiations, then-LSU athletic director Joe Dean and others with LSU balked at the idea of paying so much for a coach.
And then-chancellor Mark Emmert stepped in and stopped the quibbling between Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, and LSU. “Pay him what he wants.”
And it was done. Emmert wasn’t looking for a bargain. He was shopping at Neiman Marcus, and he got value over a long period of time because he didn’t settle for journeyman defensive assistant coach Phil Bennett, who could have been hired at bargain prices. He didn’t settle for defensive coordinator Mike Archer as Dean did after the 1986 season and found himself looking for a new coach just four years later … and another just four years later … and another just five years later.
Instead, Emmert’s shot at the moon launched LSU’s football future from bad and average and very good every now and then over the previous quarter century to sustained greatness for more than the next decade. There were national championships in the 2003 and 2007 seasons after none since 1958 and a national championship game appearance at 13-0 in the 2011 season. There were Southeastern Conference titles in 2001, ’03, ’07 and ’11 after none since 1988.
