We have 9 LHPs on the roster without Brown included.
Pearson is really the only every day LHH we have.
Jay played the numbers, and Brown took the bull by the horns.
I'm sure Jay will keep Brown in some kind of pitching shape. You can never have too many LHPs.

No question about that. If you aren't utilizing it as much as possible, you're going to get left behind.

Kendall, do you think the west coast power programs pick up their NIL game? Or do you think the the sec takes over?

I think you are short changing his pitching abilities. He was on team USA strictly as a pitcher and was a top 100 prospect this last draft as a LHP and not a hitter. He had a tough fall but he is not just some other LHP.
That said, I think he took advantage of the opportunity to show his athleticism and he obviously doesn’t mind doing both. His size will help him be able to handle a bit more of a workload than Guidry. I think Brown is 6-1 or 6-2 and 195 pounds or so. Guidry is about the same height but 20 pounds lighter.

3 things
1- I didn’t say he was just some other pitcher. Don’t put words into my mouth. His tools as a position player are louder, however. They doesn’t mean he cannot be an effective pitcher. He can be good at both.
He reminds me of Michael Aubrey & Brian Bogusevic. Both pitched effectively but ultimately their skills as positional players proved to be their calling card.
Brown is well-built, thick lower body. Can really run, and sprayed line drives all over the field the few times I saw him this fall.
On the mound he was 88-91. Certainly not closed to a finished product but very easy for him to get lost on this staff & the talent on it.
2- let’s stop being married to high school scouting reports. Whether it’s him or Guidry or whomever. Whatever they did in high school was great & led them on this path, but it doesn’t mean anything now. They very quickly identified Brown as someone that can help in the lineup, and watching him, it’s very clear why. People are still asking if Guidry is going to be a SS. SEC baseball humbles high school scouting reports.
3- until Jay deploys a guy as a regular 2 way player, i will just consider it fantasy. That’s not a shot in anyway. But it’s a tough spot to throw someone in, and he knows his rosters are probably good enough to not have to do that.

I think someone like Oregon State will because the Beavers really really care about baseball -- and the pockets really care about baseball. Stanford obviously has a lot to sell, too, despite Braden Montgomery leaving over the summer. Its NIL game is still cranking up. The ones I'm kind of curious/concerned about are USC and UCLA -- schools like that. I'm not sure how motivated people are to crank up NIL with a move to a northern conference. We shall see. Interesting times to say the least.

Goodness. That's honestly very tough at this juncture. But I think these teams will be very good: Florida, LSU, Vanderbilt, Arkansas -- and I think Tennessee and A&M are both teams I'm pretty bullish on after fall workouts, too. I think LSU's pitching depth has alleviated concerns I have about this team. Obviously, the year after a national title is never easy for a staff, but LSU is a different animal. That's the standard in BR.

KR, could you see LSU back in Omaha this season competing for a title?
Posted on 12/4/23 at 10:08 pm to TexTgrTed
I can, which is kind of crazy without Skenes and Crews. But this team actually has a chance to be a little bit more well-rounded come season's end. I don't think anyone on this staff has to have a 'Skenes' type of year (which won't happen anyway) for this team to have an incredible season.

Thanks Kendall! Appreciate your work & respect the insight. Glad to see you’re not offended by sone of the LSU “fans” on here.
Hope to see you at MM Park in March!

Brady won the C job last year and we need LH bats in the lineup this year. I’d have to imagine he’ll be the guy again when healthy. Travinsky at DH/1B platoon
Jones has to show he’s not going to be a K machine again this year before he’s a lock at 1B

How did Cam grade out this fall? I know he flashed in at least one outing with 6 K's in about 2 innings.

Brady Neal will be limited in his time behind the plate this spring according to coach Johnson. I think he will get one start per weekend with Alex Milazzo geting the majority of the innings and Hayden Travinski primarily working at DH and catching mostly during the week. Catchers are always getting hurt during the season, which will change the best made plans for the lineup,
As for Jared Jones, I agree with his K rate needing to come down for him to remain on first base. There are others on the roster that can handle 1st defensively who may be able to contribute more offensively.

This bullpen is badass.

You make a good point about Brown but right now it would hard not to give him a shot in the OF. His BA was very good in the fall and he has tools in the OF. His speed is above average and has a strong arm.
Wait till they do the same with Kade Anderson. AD23 might need a straightjacket.
