Rhoades is a hell but of a recruiter. Don't think we get any of these kids if Rhoades wants to keep them at VCU.

I know VCU has issued releases before, but I'm going to doubt they do it this time. Not when they lose six seniors and they're looking at a free-fall without that signing class making a big impact next year.

Yeah, that's what I heard.

And that's what makes me wonder if we wouldn't take a shot at the Zack Brown kid. If I was less lazy I would go find the link where Brown talks about the relationship he had with Abdelmassih and how much it meant to him that Abdelmassih understood what he was going through, etc. If you could actually keep that kid from imploding for two years you might well end up with a Stromile Swift type difference maker on your hands, and a resulting program resurgence to go with it.

Or he could stick up an Albertson's within a month of showing up in Baton Rouge and that would be the end of that experiment.

That would be a grand slam addition to the staff. How quickly do you expect Wade to round out his staff?

It's not football. You're only looking at three assistants and then some support staff people.

There is apparently some sort of deal in the works for Wade to have Randy back as the third assistant and be the in-state recruiting guy. Which is fine with me so long as that's what Wade wants and it's not some precondition of his employment or political payoff or whatever.

And supposedly you'd have Abdelmassih as the lead assistant. Ott on the radio today was talking about Wade hiring Brian Merritt as the #2 assistant. Merritt is the guy who runs all of John Lucas' camps in Houston, and last year he was an assistant at Arizona State.

That would indicate he's not bringing any of his VCU guys, or at least none of his VCU assistants. I would think he'd bring at least one, but what I heard today would I guess preclude that.

I wouldn't be surprised if we found out about all of that tomorrow at the press conference.

How would you rank that staff nationally?

I honestly can't say. I really don't have enough information to judge.

Abdelmassih seems to be a pretty prominent recruiter, and the stuff I've seen written about Merritt is he's one of these absolute basketball junkies who work the hell out of the recruiting trail. But neither one were/are on winning staffs, and certainly Randy isn't. So if you want you can say they're rescue dogs, or you can say they're hungry guys who are basketball junkies with the same obsession that Wade has and that's a staff that'll outwork everybody.

Somebody who knows this stuff better than me would have to give you that judgement - if this is even the staff he hires.

Merritt was fired at Arizona State for DUI. I guess enough time has passed. Plus John Lucas is the GOAT image rehabber.

Interestingly enough, Merritt was the guy who came closest to getting Thon Maker, and Maker's decision to apply for the NBA draft instead of going to Arizona State supposedly happened because of the rumors that Merritt wasn't going to be retained.

I think he's a recruiter. Whether he's a coach, I dunno. My guess is if you're going to spend time around Wade you're going to get good with the X's and O's and the details by osmosis if nothing else. At least I hope so.

Abdelmassih should be added soon. St. John fans really want to keep him so that should be a great hire.

In really hoping Wade is a good talent developer. That's what it really comes down too

I was talking about Merritt, but yeah - Abdelmassih seems known more for his recruiting than coaching so far as well.

I guess. It's hard to say. Chris Mullin's staff hasn't done much of anything at St. John's yet. Abdelmassih did coach for Hoiberg, though, and Hoiberg is definitely a quality x's and o's guy, so maybe he learned from that guy.

With Wade being the X and O guy it would make sense to surround yourself with recruiters.

Exactly. Its well documented he's a brilliant X and O guy.

I like the idea of him surrounding himself with recruiters and just worrying more about coaching the kids up.

Love the idea of the Assadhfauefsa guy from St. John's and the fact he's know as a great "transfer" recruiter. That is how you jump start a dead program, get some solid, experienced transfers to plug holes.

Hope he joins the staff if for no other reason than to watch his name get butchered for years to come.

I'm gonna pronounce it Abb-dell-massey.

That makes sense to me.

If I'm right about the big Georgian from Montverde being on Wade's list and we get him, then it'll get REALLY fun.

Sandro Mamukelashvili. Mah-moo-ke-LASH-villy.

Zero chance anybody around here pronounces that shite correctly. He'd be Sandro and that'd be it.

It's going to be crucial for wade to get atleast one transfer big. We can't go into next season with Sims starting at PF
