re: Javonte Smart - macaoidh
With Blakeney being gone, there is no reason Smart can't come in and play the 2. He doesn't have to fight with Mays for a job. I wouldn't count us out of the fight to get him. It will be interesting to see how we stand with Sharrief O'Neal, Josh LeBlanc and Chris Williams, too....

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
Kiir would be a take, no doubt, but we also need a post who's physical enough to push people around a bit. That isn't Kiir. It might be that JUCO from Jones County. He's a moose....
I saw on the VCU melt board there is a kid named Batts they are really high on and concerned he will jump with Wade. Anyone know about him?
Batts is ranked right around #100 in the country by all the recruiting services I've seen. He seems like he's a quality player, as are the two...
I agree, but supposedly Abdelmassih is suppose to be a really good transfer recruiter, so maybe if we can sign him soon he can find us a grad transfer
I'd love to know who the grad transfer candidates are. Abdelmassih is also supposed to be a JUCO whiz as well. We need that badl...

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
In all seriousness. I doubt Wade is willing to bring this guy along in his first season. It wouldn't look very good on his part
If he did it would be because Abdelmassih vouched for the kid. At this point I wouldn't even warrant that he's within striking distance academically. ...

re: what kind of progression do you see this basketball program making over the next few years - macaoidh
I'm withholding judgement on those expectations until I see what he does next month when recruiting begins. If he holds on to the team he's got I think you max out at probably a 16-15 record or so. But if you change out three or four of the bottom-level players on the roster and replace them with...

re: Blake Harris (PG) released from Washington - macaoidh
What attitude problems? This has never been mentioned before . What do you base this upon?
Lots of people who have had access to the team have described Sampson that way. He's going to have to have a come-to-Jesus with Wade. Hopefully that will work out, though, because there re...

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
I'm gonna pronounce it Abb-dell-massey. That makes sense to me. If I'm right about the big Georgian from Montverde being on Wade's list and we get him, then it'll get REALLY fun. Sandro Mamukelashvili. Mah-moo-ke-LASH-villy. Zero chance anybody around here pronounces that shite correctly....

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
I was talking about Merritt, but yeah - Abdelmassih seems known more for his recruiting than coaching so far as well. I guess. It's hard to say. Chris Mullin's staff hasn't done much of anything at St. John's yet. Abdelmassih did coach for Hoiberg, though, and Hoiberg is definitely a quality x's ...

By tomorrow night I hope Wade is up in Kansas at the JUCO tournament. He's going to need to pull two or three of the kids playing up there this week....

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
Interestingly enough, Merritt was the guy who came closest to getting Thon Maker, and Maker's decision to apply for the NBA draft instead of going to Arizona State supposedly happened because of the rumors that Merritt wasn't going to be retained. I think he's a recruiter. Whether he's a coach, I...

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
How would you rank that staff nationally?
I honestly can't say. I really don't have enough information to judge. Abdelmassih seems to be a pretty prominent recruiter, and the stuff I've seen written about Merritt is he's one of these absolute basketball junkies who work the hell...

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
It's not football. You're only looking at three assistants and then some support staff people. There is apparently some sort of deal in the works for Wade to have Randy back as the third assistant and be the in-state recruiting guy. Which is fine with me so long as that's what Wade wants and it's...

re: Some Will Wade recruiting possibilities - macaoidh
Scott, is the assistant at St Johns looking likely to be headed here? Would be a huge get
Yeah, that's what I heard. And that's what makes me wonder if we wouldn't take a shot at the Zack Brown kid. If I was less lazy I would go find the link where Brown talks about the relation...

Hayward was supposed to be able to shoot. He literally threw up more airballs than made baskets. You can't carry a kid like that on an SEC roster....
Rhoades is a hell but of a recruiter. Don't think we get any of these kids if Rhoades wants to keep them at VCU.
I know VCU has issued releases before, but I'm going to doubt they do it this time. Not when they lose six seniors and they're looking at a free-fall without that signin...

re: Blake Harris (PG) released from Washington - macaoidh
It's not a matter of running people off. There will be some natural attrition. I would be shocked if Robinson returns. I was shocked he returned this year. He definitely doesn't fit into Wade's system. Robinson needs to transfer somewhere that's a better fit. He would benefit from a redsh...

re: Blake Harris (PG) released from Washington - macaoidh
Word I heard is Blakeney was telling people that if he thought well of the new coach he was very open to staying. We need a point guard in the spring signing class, though. Badly. Mays has the potential to develop, but you can't go out there with Patterson and Jenkins behind him. The Harris kid i...
