Im surprised there has not been more attrition at this point. I would think that players would be looking to get to another school for the spring

Likely a lot of kids waiting to go through spring practice and see where they fit into the depth chart. The only one i'm curious about is Jarrett Lee.A Qb that is going to transfer(not saying he is but it would make sense)would usually want to do it as soon as possible to go through spring practice to get ahead for the next season.Maybe the kid just loves it at LSU and wants to stay regardless.

He probably feels that he can catch up on JJ like last spring and summer and has a chance to compete for pt

Are there partial scholarships in football like in most other sports, or does the NCAA prohibit this in football?

I thought the self imposed sanctions were just 2 less recruits for the coming year, not total scholarship players? As in we could only take 23 commits, but could still have 85 schollies??

It's 2 less on both
quote:

The self-imposed restrictions include a reduction in official visits for the 2010-11 academic year, a reduction of initial scholarship recipients by two for the 2011-12 incoming class, a reduction of the overall scholarship counters by two for the 2011-12 academic year and a reduction of the total number of National Letter of Intent/SEC scholarship papers that can be offered to prospective student-athletes by two for the February 2011 signing date.

We can only have 83 next year. From the LSU press release:

Edited OP for the signing class:

79 scholarship players to end this past season. We lost 9 scholarship SRs. Also, Peterson, Ridley, and Calhoun have left for total of 12 putting us at 67 scholly guys. With the self imposed sanctions, we can only have 83 scholarship players. That leaves room for 16 players.

The amount we sign over 16 is the amount that we'll have to lose to attrition from the current roster. We took 23 players in this class. This 23 includes Cameron Fordham who walked on last year. With that amount, 7 players will have to leave.

67 + 23 = 90

90 - 83 = 7

i have to think that the coaching staff has a reasonably good idea of who will be leaving and took that into account in the recruiting this year. there is always attrition and this "oversigning" has been going on long enough for them to judge the impact fairly accurately. i'm not worried about it.

Bonjourno,

First, nice thread. It should get interesting to see these numbers work out.

Second, do you have any info on the typical attrition number for LSU? Is 7 high, low, or about right?

Anyone else know?

I don't know exact numbers, but it seems like it's normally around 5 or 6. So 7 is a little higher than normal but not unmanageable.

Edited OP to account for Worle leaving the team.

I'm really disappointed that Worle left the team. I really thought he was going to make a splash at FB this season.

Anyway, 6 players in the red right now

Edited OP for Randall commitment:
quote:

79 scholarship players to end this past season. We lost 9 scholarship SRs. Also, Peterson, Ridley, Calhoun, and Worle have left for total of 13 putting us at 66 scholly guys. With the self imposed sanctions, we can only have 83 scholarship players. That leaves room for 17 players.

Underclassmen attrition:

Patrick Peterson
Stevan Ridley
Drayton Calhoun
Brandon Worle

We had taken 23 players in this class. This 23 includes Cameron Fordham who walked on last year. The recent commitment of Randall makes it 24. With the scholly restrictions only 23 can enroll. This means if everyone qualifies, someone will have to greyshirt. With the 23 that enroll, 6 current players will have to leave.

66 + 23 = 89

89 - 83 = 6

Incoming that still need to qualify:

Mickey Johnson
Alonzo Lewis

If 23 enroll, 6 current players will have to leave. So as of now:

66 + 23 = 89

89 - 83 = 6

Rumored attrition:

Chris Tolliver - med hardship
Kellen Theriot - med hardship
Ryan St. Julien - med hardship
Tyler Edwards
