Are you kidding, do you think you have to graduate from LSU to be employed here or run a business here?

If he is smart enough to do well at Maryland, he is smart enough to do well at LSU. Go where your hearts wants you to go. Everything will take care of itself after that.

and when your resume lands on someones desk, and you are competing with numerous others for the same position, the University and college you graduate from makes a difference.

as long as he isn't the only one applying for the job. If several applicants apply all things being even, having played for LSU would be the wild card in his favor.

And Lsu is fine. At a certain point the school you go to makes little difference. I engaged this nonsense on another thread. By this logic, every recruit should always pick the more academic school. I could have gone anywhere for college, and decided to play basketball on scholarship at a small D1 school. When I finished, I had no trouble getting acceptance into an Ivy level graduate program. I subsequently had no issues getting into med school. I went to school with these Ivy League people, and they weren't any better educated than I was. If your dream is to participate in academia as a professor, then Ivy League matters. Otherwise, Lsu has plenty of doors for you to open. No one should apologize for an LSU education.

I hire people, and when I'm deciding who I'm pulling in for interviews for young people who have little to no work experience, the college curriculum does factor into the decision. It doesn't absolutely guarantee that a Harvard graduate gets the position over a LSU graduate, but it matters on getting the foot in the door. Downplaying the ranking of a college curriculum is foolish. Now, I hope Scott comes to LSU, but I could understand if he feels that Maryland provides him an advantage academically.

And wouldn't being an Lsu quarterback peak your interest as well?

Why this is so hard for you to understand? Most companies like local candidates and we are talking about Louisiana. While Maryland does have better national rankings, attending a local flagship university certainly has enough other advantages to offset that in the case of landing a local job, like a large alumni base and more local networking opportunities.
Do you know which universities have most graduates hired by those hot companies in silicon valley? SJSU and SFSU are at top. They don't even have national rankings.

and why is hard to understand that Louisiana isn't the only place to work. The company I work for is based in Silicon Valley. I work from home in Louisiana, but when we have a position open, we look for the highest credentials. If Scott goes to LSU, it doesn't say he won't get the job. Look at me, I graduated from LSU, and I'm working. All I'm saying is that some schools provide an advantage because the college curriculum is better. Who can argue against this? If Scott chooses Maryland on the opinion that a degree from that school will benefit him more than a degree from LSU, then who can fault him? It isn't all about going to the NFL.

No one says Louisiana is the only place to work. We are talking about if LSU has certain advantages in Louisiana market and it does have.

So do you mean that your boss actually does not discriminate LSU degree when he hires you? Or there are no other candidates available from a better university?

It does but the difference between the two are not as significant as you claimed and is not the only deciding factor. College curriculum is not equal to one single national ranking. I would at least look at other things like major ranking/reputation, GPA, course taken, projects and internship experience, and any of those could be equally important.

Why you always like to argue with something doesn't exist? Again, no one would fault him since it is his choice to make. The point I am arguing about is LSU degree is not as bad as you claimed, especially locally.
Following your logic, should a kid alway choose bama over LSU because bama seems a better program than ours in recent years? Glad that most Louisiana kids do not think your way.

I hired people all the time. if you are anywhere in the deep south, LSU is a well known commodity as a school. I live in texas and if a LSU application crossed my desk with the exact same credentials as a maryland application then i take
LSU every time. i know LSU people and their is a strong network.
the difference between LSU and maryland is negligible. if you want to live on the east coast take maryland. otherwise academics is a low varibale in your decision process mr. scott.

If he's thinkng academically, seems like Harvard or other Ivy League is the choice. Maryland makes no sense.
And even then it depends on what he wants to study and do as a career.

LSU coaches have 4 straight days with him - if he's not swayed come Monday, it just wasn't happening.

You do realize a LOT of the successful who's who in New Orleans did not attend LSU?
