1. Barring a miraculous ruling from the NCAA, Robinson will have to sit out this season

One person on Twitter said he might go pro in Australia... Or maybe he could play at a college that isn't NCAA?

Don't think his draft stock will suffer that much. He's still gonna be a beast shot blocker with lots of offensive potential.

You don't need proof of tampering to place a school on a restricted list, in fact you don't need any reason at all to place a school on a restricted list.
there will be consequences for WKU if they go down that road...

If they block him from transferring anywhere, yep.

If they block a few schools they think are tampering, no it won't.

ETA: Look I'm not here to be negative, but there was some vital information that was being left out of this thread.

The odds of Robinson playing at LSU this upcoming season are probably less than 5%

It's possible he could sit out a year but NOBODY knows what WKU is thinking and the thought that they are just going to give him a free release is just a little silly

if WKU/Stansbury doesn't give him a free release the media will make them out to be the bad guys and butthurt. G5 schools have no leverage. They need the P5 to make their budgets.

Even if they did give him a free release, wouldn't he still have to sit out a year since he was already enrolled and taking classes?

Wouldn't the free release only allow him to transfer here directly to sit a year instead of having to go juco for a year and then transfer to LSU?

This is what I was told.

1. You don't officially count as NCAA enrolled unless you're enrolled as a full-time student. Meaning you're taking 12 hours in a semester. So you can enroll in summer school and still count as a signee. I'm not 100 percent sure that's correct, but that's what I was told.

2. Western Kentucky is a colossal mess with Stansbury and they've got a problem. The athletic director isn't happy with him because he went 15-16 with a team picked 2nd in that conference last year, and now he's got recruits who were supposed to make them the next Gonzaga who don't even want to be there because he ran Williams off.

3. Robinson has told some recruiting people that he'll go to Kentucky, which is a leverage move as I understand it because if he went there it would really be a black eye for WKU. They won't want to release him to UK; LSU would be more palatable to them because it's the home state school after all.

4. If he doesn't get a release anywhere, he's going to play in Europe but on the way out of the country he's supposedly going to stop off in New York and Bristol and do some interviews about his recruitment by WKU. Which the athletic director is terrified about because he's heard all the same rumors.

I had a normally very skeptical member of the BR sports media call me yesterday and tell me he thinks this is going to come together after all. I would still call it a long shot but don't be too shocked if it happens - LSU has a coach who is highly, HIGHLY persuasive about selling his program, and I don't mean that in a way suggestive of anything untoward. He's a good, old-fashioned closer.

Not necessarily true. It depends on how restricted the list is. If WKU says it's just schools they suspected tampered they won't be demonized except by media outlets in Baton Rouge and Lexington. Nationally, people will shrug their shoulders.

If it's a full restriction, it may turn out bad for them but nothing more than some bad press and might hurt recruiting down the road at worst.

Correct unless he petitioned the NCAA which he will. He very likely won't win.

Yes. If he was given a free transfer and lost his petition to the NCAA he would be eligible to take the court in fall of 2018

Will say this about #2. Stansbury took over a dumpster fire there and stabilized it in year 1. Their plan was always looking forward to year 2 and recruits like Mitch. Even without Mitch, they'll still be alright.

According to the WKU message board, the rumor is that Shammond Williams, the former NOLA Hornet who is supposedly Mitch's godfather, is trying to make himself Mitch's agent.

The reason I say supposedly godfather is because Mitch was born in 1998, 4 days after Williams' Final Four run ended. There are legit godfathers and godfathers "of convenience".

Usually godfathers are named when a kid is born, but it would be something if a kid becomes a 7 foot beast.

I know you read the articles about tampering. That is college basketball now. UK is doing so, LSU is doing so, and WKU is doing so.

Tampering is a major, major issue at the Power 5 Level

Mid major schools are basically becoming recruiting grounds for a lot of power five schools.

I read a story recently about how Robert Morris has lost their leading scorer for like 3 or four consecutive season to power five schools

Now if we are talking about illegal recruiting there are only a few schools who aren't cheating.

Stansbury 100% cheated to get Robinson there in the first place

It wasn't my understanding either, but this is what's being said. I guess we'll see.

It's a weird case for sure.

I don't follow MBB too much, but I have learned that you are very well connected and definitely have some insight and an inside source to the program.

So let me just say, that in vast sea of idiocy that is tRant, where common sense, common decency, and common courtesy are altogether highly uncommon... THANK YOU for the service you provide to us all, in spite of the muck and mire that most of the rest of us continually sling around here.

Regarding your actual info, I would question #1 a little further, as I would assume that 6 hours could be considered "full time" in the summer (and I have no idea what his course load may be).

It *appears* that he NCAA let's the institution define full-time status. For most schools that is 12 hours in a Spring or Fall semester. When you start talking about Summer terms is where it will get tricky. Not every school has a definition of full-time enrollment for summer school. In searching around WKU's website I could not find one. It may be that this is a highly unique situation where the NCAA will be setting precedent with their decision.

I'm not going to hold my breath on him ever stepping foot on LSUs campus, but man, it sure would be incredible if it all worked out and he could play for us this year.

Found this on WKU's site, WKU 2017 Summer Registration Guide. FWIW, looks like 12 hours is full time enrollment for spring, summer and fall semesters:

Reading on twitter that LSU is the destination.

Robinson IS willing to sit out this season

Also Stansbury was supposed to meet with Robinson but WKU is going overseas to play a few games so he won't meet with him until after.
Might be a few days before we hear anything
