No its not, the impact of the NES was massive and historic.
I do agree, but I'm just picturing what my point of view might be like if I had grown up in the early 2000's instead of the 1980's. I remember feeling like everyone had a Nintendo in their house when I was a kid. It was as ubiquitous as the VCR. This would be doubly true for someone who grew up with the PS2 based on those sales numbers.

However, the impact of the NES on the culture of video games and pop culture in general goes beyond the raw number of system units sold.

To be fair, the Saturn had a longer lifespan. Dreamcast moved a lot of units early on but wasn't on the market long enough before the impending launch of the ps2.
That's a fair point. Dreamcast sold well out of the gate but once news of the PS2 began trickling in, most decided to bide their time instead.

PS2 was pretty big, it stated the GTA frenzy. Pretty much every kid that was into gaming had one.

GTA is arguably the biggest franchise out there, PS2 started it with GTA3.

Yea that is insane. The only thing that really compares is the DS.

PS4 is on a crazy pace too right now.

Global sales of the 3 current gen.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 19,052,353

Xbox One Total Sales: 11,298,462

Wii U Total Sales: 9,137,844

Oh wow, that sucks! You could probably find a similar save state somewhere out there, for an emulator. Just a thought.

Funny how this started out as a Dreamcast thread

I had a Saturn, it was my worst console purchase ever. Also had a Dreamcast, loved that one. As many have said Sonic Adventure was my game back in the day.

Grandia 2 was also a great one for the Dreamcast.

Great game. #55 on my favorite games of all time. Also worth noting it was better on the Dreamcast. It had a PS2 port that was plagued with video and audio stuttering during certain attacks.

A little side project I've been working on off and on ever since Oauron posted his list. It's now a top 75 list but I still have about 40 more games to rank.

I just started listing every game I've ever loved. Then picked the top 50 of that. Then the top 25, and so on and so forth. Began ranking after I got down to the final 3 and then worked backwards from there. It actually is kind of fun. I'll probably throw a few charts over the data too just to see what year(s), publishers, genres, etc. have the most representation.

Not yet. I'll post it when I'm done. Might start a thread on it just to see if there is any interest in people sharing their own lists, though I don't expect most people to have lists going that far beyond 10.

Yep, it was ported 2 years later. The bugs weren't the only thing either, it just didn't look as good. The characters had less detail.

I always thought the downfall of the Dreamcast was caused by the easy ability to burn their games. I feel like all my Dreamcast games in the past were burnt copies and it hurt Sega.

FTFY

The Dreamcast died because of SnoopALoop.

ETA: Kidding, of course. I also had burnt Dreamcast games. It was hard to resist when I was a poor college student.
