I mean, N64 had plenty of problems that gets glossed over because nostalgia and some epic games for its time.

While I only had a N64, it's easy to see why it got dominated.

I forgot about that one. It's functionality included taxes, a stock ticker, weather report, and horse racing info... all the things essential to the internet.

Amazing how ahead of its time Nintendo was with online functionality considering they are the ones that lag now

I used to be a major Sega fanboy.

I had the Genesis, Sega Cd, 32x, dream cast, and the nomad.

I wish they had something similar to the nomad now. I used to love being able to plug my Sega cartridges in and take them with me or use it as a controller for the Sega.

I don't even know what the hell I did with all of my stuff. Probably sold it to get something else back then, but I wish I still had it all.

A lot of folks who grew up with Genesis instead of Nintendo are still bitter. So Dreamcast is romanticized. Yes, Sega made a lot of blunders and eventually fell by the wayside, but before they did they gave us one last amazing console. What a final bow. It's beautiful *tear*

ok so your a Sega fanboy that never got into Nintendo, noted. The question was why the Dreamcast failed to be successful and I answered the question. The Dreamcast was a good console but to stay successful you have to sell consoles and games and Dreamcast didn't.

As for the 64 being a turd in your eyes, it had arguably the top 2 games of all time on it as exclusives. That alone makes it pretty awesome. The 64's downside was the same problem the DC had in it's media format but like I said before, Nintendo can get away with its exclusive library.

I loved my N64 when I had it but good god has that system aged poorly. It's just in that area between retro games and modern 3D games where it just looks like absolute shite now. PS1 is similar. But you're doing some serious revisionist history if you think there weren't great games on the 64

Early 3d games aged very poorly. The hardest thing about playing classics in that time period is that most of them control so poorly.

all consoles age really poorly, they just hold a nostalgia factor for most that grew up with them. PS1 games look like garbage now compared to the new stuff, hell, even the PS2 looks like garbage for the most part and we thought it was the tits when it released.

The big problem that games had in general was storage capacities. My laptop hard drive in college was 2 gb and I upgraded it to 5 gb when I was balling. Now I have movies that are 2gb on my 3 tb of media hard drives on my desktop. Storage capacities allowed game producers to build bigger games with more information.

dreamcast is still one of my favorite systems. I remember getting a bundle from costco and it not being very expensive. Not like ps1 and ps2 when they first came out.

I disagree here. PS2 games hold up pretty well in my eyes, at least from a visuals perspective. Mechanics are another story

Uh no.

I was a Nintendo fanboy. I never owned Sega until I bought a Dreamcast at a yardsale.

That's how I feel. The biggest issue is that standard definition looks bad on HD screens. The HD remakes of them look fine though. Mechanics are a different issue, they can be hit or miss.

NFL 2K games on Dreamcast were incredible, blew Madden away IMO. Pisses me off that they don't make them anymore.

College football 2K games were really good too.

Give me those, crazy taxi, virtue tennis 2, skies of Arcadia, and Shenmue and I'm set.
