damn. i was really looking forward to having an N64 emulator. they are buggy? unplayable? how bad are we talking about?

Some are completely unplayable in stock form. There is overclocking and such. I never messed around with it much on my pi because I have a full MAME cabinet that can run N64 fine.

It's a blast getting it all together with just the end project in your sights.

The real time consuming part is downloading all the roms

It will look like a bunch of lines of code for a few minutes while it loads all of the programs for the first time. But I don't know what happens if you don't do the 7zip step.

I don't know what you mean by the "7zip" step. Are you successfully imaging your SD card with Win32 Disk Imager? Maybe make sure you are formatting the card and not just deleting the stuff off of it through Windows Explorer in case there are files you are missing or that can't be seen.

I erased all the files off the sd card to start over since I didn't image retropie correctly. Now the USB micro sd reader doesn't look like it's reading my sd card. I don't know what to do

If you post your phone number or email address I'm willing to give you a call to try and help you out. Not sure what to tell you. If it won't read the card it could be a hardware issue.

So does the spch1001.bin file go in every PS1 rom folder?

In the least, I should have NFL Blitz.bin, NFL Blitz.cue and spch1001.bin right?

Also, does each disc on multi-disc games get it's own folder or can I put them all in one like Final Fantasy or do I need Final Fantasy CD1, Final Fantasy CD 2, etc.?

No, just put it in:

/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS

That should work, yes, but the BIOS file should only need to be in the path mentioned above.

I haven't messed with multi-disc games myself but here is a link of things to experiment with. Maybe someone else here has experience with them, though?

There is a specific folder called BIOS. You just have to drop it in there like diedaily mentioned

Create a folder called NFL Blitz. Place only Bin and Cue files in that folder. Drop the bios file in the BIOS folder only. Then copy/paste the NFL Blitz folder into the ROMS folder where all the ps one games go.

When you DL retropie for the first time, it isnt in the correct format so you have to extract the file first. I told everyone on here to use 7zip, but really any extraction program would work (like winwar or whatever). Then you use that extracted retropie file in win32.Obviously you know all of that, but that is what he is referring to as the "7zip" step. He didnt extract the retropie file first. I dont know why that would screw up all of his hardware though unless it wrote something on his card that shouldnt be there and it cant be taken off for whatever reason.

Worst case scenario I would think is just go buy a new micro Sd. Might be a $10-15 bump in the road.

I spoke to him on the phone for a bit. I didn't realize you had specifically recommended 7zip as the file extractor. We tried a few things with his SD card but I think it might be a bad card. We reformatted and re-imaged and it still gives the error:

Kernel panic-not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown- block(179,6)

Some quick searches indicates this could be file system corruption or even a bad card. He was going to try a couple of other suggestions and then just buy another card tomorrow if he still dead in the water.

That's it. You will need the micro sd card reader to plug into your computer like you said. And any HDMI cable will work. I bought one off of amazon.

Did you put your MAME and Neo Geo files in a folder for each game or just left them out? For some reason neither are showing up, everything else is
