You can tell pretty early that the game is going to take place over a huge area. Very good mix of the open area from AC3 and the city from AC2. I've only seen an island and Havannah thus far. Ready to dive back in this afternoon.

I played about 4 hours last night. I haven't really gotten into the story yet...I stopped right after the island where you kill the animals.

I spent a good amount of time exploring Havana and climbing all of the viewpoints and grabbing some collectibles.

The gameplay feels a little tighter and smoother. Not a huge change but a little better refined. Still a couple of times I jumped off something I didn't want to. The ship experience is a little better, too. You have more control over the weapons. I haven't spent much time with this aspect yet so it may be even better.

So far I really like Edward. He's exactly what I wanted. He's cocky, arrogant, rude and funny. I'm curious to see how he changes through the game. After the boring Connor, Edward is a great change.

The missions appear to be similar to the past. I haven't gotten far, but I've already done some stalking missions and kill the bad guy. Some people are turned off by this, but I still enjoy this. Edward is a badass from the start and can dominate large groups like in the past.

I like it so far. It's a beautiful game on the XBOX. I can only imagine what it will look like on the new consoles. If you're getting one of the new consoles I would probably recommend waiting for that. I'll be getting one, but not at launch because I'm moving and won't have time to play with it. Because I like to play through these games multiple times I'll pick up a PS4 copy to play again and get the PS exclusives.

it is beginning to mix in a few places for me. I suspect that it will exclude many places from the main story line which will allow you to go exploring. Havana looks nice because its not huge but it gives you the ability to take a break from the ship and do some side missions exploring and such. I also like how it looks like it professes you in the areas. The part of the sea you start in is easy, and you eventually move to medium and hard. I suspect the ships you face will be more experienced and bigger.

the tailing missions are going to be a pain but other than that hear the game is great.

It sounds like the content is much better in this game. Are the mechanics improved at all or pretty much the same? How is combat?

hand to hand combat is about the same

sea combat and maneuvering is a lot different.

So do you have any need for stealth or is it just dodge and counter still?

stealth actually plays a big role in some missions and is a better way to go about it. I remember that in AC3 you could almost never use stealth effectively you would always have to fight your way through things. But now stealth is a good strategy to use. There is one pain in the but mission though that you can't kill anyone and you can't be detected. IT took me a good hour to get past this one part.

also there are restricted sections on the seas. you need to use avoidance on these levels. The last thing you would want to happen is to have a level 23 fridget see you when you are crippled. Also with fighting at sea you have to examine your surroundings. A couple of times I wanted to pillage a ship because it had materials I needed but two other fridgets where lurking around and came to fight me putting me at a disadvantage causing me to by desynched or I had to turn tail and run. It is a nice addition of strategy when I remember from AC3 it was mostly you just follow the story line not much strategy involved.

Most AC games lacked strategy and were just fighting. This is a nice change of pace it sounds like.

Hand to hand combat is a bit smoother. The ship combat is much improved. Lurking in the brush is key in this game. Much heavier on stealth. Eagle vision is drastically improved and easier to use. it's easier to see hiding spots, you can lock on to a ton of enemies/targets, and you can see through walls and other obstacles to see your targets. The story is very strong so far. I'm enjoying it. There is a ton to do at sea, but travel can be quite lengthy before fast travel is unlocked.

I actually enjoy it when they sing pirate songs (well modern versions of them)

Traveling across a big map when there is a lot to do is awesome, when there isn't it sucks. That's the key to open world games.

the great thing is usually there is something to do. Big ship to take out, shark or whale to hunt, islands to explore, or just go full sail and listen to the pirates sing away.

IGN ranks 6 AC games
I figured I would post this here since a new thread would bring the douches along to talk about how much the entire series sucks.
My list:
1. AC2
2. Brotherhood
3/4. AC1/Revelations
5. AC3

Haven't played black flag
