So I bought this game a long time ago but only tinkered around in "creative" mode or whatever it's called.

What's the best way to get into the game? Do I need to read a rocket science book, get a Ph.D. degree, or watch some YouTube videos? I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

Any advice? It's an awesome game I'm just having trouble getting started.

Scott Manley is the answer to any question regarding this game. Watch his videos on YouTube.

If you just want to frick off, watch Robbaz's videos instead of Scott's. I find Scott to be pretty dry and boring, but he is damn good at the game.

Yeah I'd like to start from scratch and play career mode. Last time I played, I don't remember there being any direction in the game as far as what you're supposed to start with.

I'll check out those guys and see if they have anything for beginning career mode.

I'm a big fan of RemoteTech for the realism, difficulty, and the addition of sandbox in game goals.

Basically it requires communication channels to KSC for unmanned probes and for science to be transmitted back.

So now you have to build com sats and relays starting with geosync sats as your space programs leaves infancy.

It's starting to turn around but the biggest drawback of KSC to me has been the lack of purpose to exploration. Gimme mining, research stations, hell, give us the ability to build complex space stations and bases on other planets to launch from as the pinnacle of KSP.

Give me the ability to do asteroid mining mining/ station refit beyond Duna so that I can repair craft that have been damaged beyond what kerbals can fix.

Scott is the class nerd that everyone thought is the next Bill Gates.

Robbaz is the disaffected disruptive class clown with a 4.0

This x1000

I want there to be more than one space station. I wish we could build stations launch missions from different planets. To make the space station operational though you would have to fly kerbals there. I also want different music for different planets instead of the same space music you listen to when you leave the Kerbin atmosphere.

The big question though is where does it end?

This upgradable buildings might be my downfall. Most of my rockets tend to be massive

Having trouble getting them onto the launch pad

The weight limit on the first pad is crazy low.

You would have to have mad skills to get a kerbal in orbit on it.

It's damn near impossible. I've got 48,000 funds right now but as soon as I get past 52,000 the first thing I'm upgrading is the launch pad. It's extremely frustrating trying to build rockets for that first launch pad. It only holds 18 tons IIRC

Yeah, I can only get about 4 of fuel tanks and one engine on that first launch pad. If you I go straight up I can hit about 80k meters before I'm out of fuel.

I've been able to get four fuel tanks and two small solid rocket boosters. That's it though. I get up to around 90k and that's about my limit. I've been building rockets to get me into certain observation areas. That's way harder than it seems.

I know what you mean. It seems like steering is a lot harder after the update. I keep trying toget near a target for observation and usually end up losing control and crashing back into Kerbin.

What I started doing is I'll turn my rocket in the direction of the observation area at about 3k-4k. I've gotten into one area like that but it was close. There's one further out that I won't be able to reach until I upgrade the launch pad. As for now I'm stuck testing parts. All I need is around 4k more funds and I'll upgrade.

Question about pilots. Do they actually take control somehow or is it just a title?

No idea. I haven't played much of the new update. I got kinda miffed that I couldn't launch a mission to Minmus with my first rocket, due to the weight restrictions on the launchpad.

I would think maybe pilots can get better performance out of your rockets? But truthfully I have no idea and just pulled that answer out of my butt.

I got a little frustrated too.

I went into sandbox mode and made a small base on the mun just so I could feel somewhat accomplished.
