This isn't really a big secret to most whiskey enthusiasts

On another note, we now have 2-3 real craft distilleries making rum and whiskey in Louisiana.

That's pretty ridiculous that these "craft distilleries" are so misleading
. I did manage to go to a distillery in Kentucky, the corsair distillery, and it was a really neat craft operation. I can see how it would be tough to start a distillery since you won't have any product until years down the line, though.

It's not just craft distilleries. There are alot of NDPs out there. Jefferson's, Black Maple Hill, Noah's Mill, etc just to name a few.

The speaker was a former manager of the Tito's brand who left because "they haven't distiller a drop in years". They buy and bottle.
My jaw dropped but after thinking, I'm not surprised.
Our show has been working with Tito's for a number of years now and I thought I knew this was patently false, so I reached out to Tito's corporate and sent them the link to this whole thread.
Here is the response: “Obviously, some people have been delivered some poor information concerning Tito’s Handmade Vodka. I can assure you that Tito’s Handmade Vodka is 100% Distilled and Bottled at the Mockingbird Distillery in Austin, Texas and they do not buy a drop of liquor from anyone at any stage of distillation. The distillery is celebrating its 17th year of continuous production this year. It is 6 times pot distilled and made from 100% American Yellow Corn. No “manager” has left Tito’s Handmade Vodka so the claim that a “Manager stated that they haven’t distilled a drop in years” is completely false. In fact, the distillery is adding more pot stills to make more of their high quality, American made brand.”

Who gives a shite where it's from as long as it tastes good.

I don't want no Canadian whiskey

Hah. This whole Tito's micro-dustup reminds me of an iconic #8 Dale Earnhardt Jr. commercial, way back when NASCAR commercials were actually funny -- and people actually watched NASCAR Sorry for the lo-rez
(the irony is that later on he actually *did* change his number)

I have to agree with Jose Canseco.
I could give a $h!t where the bulk comes from if the taste is right.

Well that conflicts what I said. I'm going to do some digging and find the name of the Tito employee.

That's great news. I mean I was pretty sure it was predominantly marketing behind all this. I currently buy bulleit as my everyday drinker. Now I just have to find the cheapest bottler that uses this factory whiskey.
Anyone have a way to research that?

If you purchase neutral grain spirits (190 proof corn ethanol in Tito's case) and distill it 6 times through a pot still the statement above remains valid. Note, "liquor" does not mean neutral grain spirit.
ETA: here's an article exposing Tito's in Forbes: LINK

Bulliet Rye is distilled by MGP, Bulliet Bourbon by Four Roses. It isnt just where its distilled. That is in fact a pretty small part of it. Age and location of aging probably plays just as big a part. Bulliet is aged at Stitzel Weller which is considered some of the hallowed grounds of whiskey aging. Just finding another MGP rye isnt going to mean it tastes like Bulliet.

Good to know. I rather enjoy Bulleit.

Whiskey mostly tastes all the same to me. I usually buy Rittenhouse Rye but Old Overholt or whatever would be just as good I'm sure.
