Yellow mustard on red beans

I was just recently informed that this isn't a normal or even known thing. I learned it from my Mom, who learned it from hers. Anyone else ever even heard of it?
For the doubters: give it a try once. The vinegar flavor does something magical.

I sometimes add a touch of vinegar or sour salt if I'm not using pickle meat so I guess that could work with a small amount of mustard.

I've never heard of mustard, but I can see that. Do you mix in while cooking or squirt it on them on the plate?
I add some type of vinegar or vinegar product to mine.

I sometimes put chow chow on mine if I have some handy.

My Dad would always put mustard on his white beans. Good memories

I've seen 'em served with chow chow and pickled okra FWIW.

My mother always put a shot of ketchup in her white beans. Good memories indeed may god rest her soul. (but it's not a trait I took since I eat ketchup on cold meatloaf sandwiches, hot scrapple and occasionally on French fries only.)

Never heard of mustard, but, growing up, we did put ketchup on white beans….
No idea why. Wasn't bad, but that's one tradition I haven't carried forward

I've seen my family put pickle juice in them after they are served. I just prefer hot sauce or pickled pepper juice.

it actually serves the same purpose as a vinegared product, not bad. I had a fit when I saw my babysitters show my kids how they put mayo on red beans and the sitters were over 300 lbs.

I can see it. Beans need vinegar. That is why Tabasco is so good on beans.

I usually use enough hot sauce to get the vinegar effect. I used to put ketchup on my scrambled eggs when I was a kid. No judgement here.
