On their own they are very bland, tasteless and slimy. Always need doctoring. They are clearly more than abundant out of the gulf. So why so expensive?

Because demand doesn't change and people will still pay it. I'm paying $29 for a 40# sack right now

Probably shouldn't eat them.

Here are a few articles. The first is a few years old, but is worthy reading.

I don't think many oyster eaters will agree with you.

They clearly aren't more than abundant. Or perhaps the demand isn't that great. Either of those would explain the price. Why do you give a shite if they are "very bland" and "tasteless"?

Chez Francois sells them but I've been burned by them selling me sacks and half of them are empty

I don't know of any other place

I usually just eat em at restaurants or if I need a lot I'll drive to Houma

Shucks in Abbeville will sell them by the sack if they have extra

I took this photo the other day when we went on a drive. How long you think it takes for these fishermen to catch this many oysters. That's a damn boat full.

I had a dozen and a half for lunch today in Mobile. They were fat, salty, tasteful and not slimy. Oysters this time of year are fantastic. So blame yourself for not knowing what's badass and what ain't.

Eat some North Eastern oysters. More expensive, but they taste better than Gulf oysters.

This should not be the case except on rare exception.
