Where to find gator meat? (Nola)

We're thinking about preparing some gator meat for the first time this weekend.
Does anyone know where to purchase some in New Orleans? Also is using a smoker the best way to prepare it?

Chris's on Harrison and West End (Lakeview) might have some. Would call and ask them.

Yeah I've seen gator meat in there before. I think you have to call ahead and have him order it for you

Thanks guys, I'll give these places a call later today.
Now for the next question. What's the best way to prepare it?

Blackened or fried

Toss the meat in a bowl with some blackening seasoning. I like Prudhomme's. Do not coat with oil or butter or any other fat. Just meat and seasoning. Then get a cast iron pan hot over high heat. Once pan is smoking add just enough canola oil to coat the pan then add the gator meat. Don't crowd the pan and turn the pieces every 1-2 minutes. It cooks fast so each batch should only take about 4-5 minutes each.

Alligator sauce piquante, for sure.

Rouse's carries it in the frozen seafood section.

The Deanie's grocery next to their Bucktown location has had it in the past.

Any specific location you seen it in? Might as well just drive to one that I know has it.

If you can get the jaw meat. That's the most flavorful and tender cut.

Noted. How do you cook it? Other than fried...we don't have a deep fryer.

I've seen it at Baronne, but the sales flyer is for all Nola area locations I think so you should be able to find it at any of them.

I've also seen it at the Big Fisherman on Magazine.
