What's the story on the two "world famous" andouille establishments in La Place?

Driving through La Place on Airline, I happen to see two establishments nearly next door to each other that claim to be world famous andouille, one place was called Bailey's and the other was Jacob's. Never heard of either, but also never spent much time in La Place.

Are either of the places legit? Do locals actually eat their products or is there a better place that doesn't rock the "world famous" moniker?

I'd appreciate any info, when I drive back through I was thinking about stopping at one or the other to pick up a few links.

Jacob's is amazing. It's the best as far as I'm concerned.

Catchy name to get people to stop. I've had both and they are ok. Not terrible but nothing i would expect when i see the words "world famous".

Personally, I prefer the andouille from Bergeron's in Lobdell.

And I like it better than Wayne Jacobs, too. But all 3 are better than most anyone else.

They also have the best hot hogs head cheese I've ever eaten.

I'd say Jacob's is pretty well known. I see it recommended quite a bit.

You haven't had Laplace andouille? Then you haven't had andouille.

Pass both of them up on your way to Don's Country store, for best andouille in the area.

So why can't we find Jacobs in stores? I'm always relegated to using Savoie's or Richards, which are not bad options though.

La Place may be the andouille capital of the world, but they're also known for their speed traps.

Jacobs is pretty damn good. I'll go out of my way on trips to/from New Orleans to grab some. It's smoke heavy but has big chunks of pork in it. I would give Bergerons in Lobdell a close second. Never tried Wayne Jacobs.

Yep. St John sheriffs love setting up right on the parish line.

Dons does fresh sausage, head cheese and smoked sausage well. Leave the andouille to the Jacobs. Don's isn't in the same league as the other two.

AGREED

The Andouille from Verons Supermarket across the street from Lutcher High School is pretty legit too.

Have you tried Veron andouille? It is in a few grocery stores in BR, and a very good option. Matherne's on Bluebonnet also does their own andouille, which is also quite good. Just be sure you get the right one -- they do some skinnier "regular" store-bought looking kind, but this is only two shorter links that are very thick.

I saw Bailey's andouille in the case at Stein's Deli one time, but I'm not sure if it was for sale or not.

#2 for me. Can't go wrong with Jacobs or Verons.

And if you're not in Lutcher, you bought the wrong Veron's andouille.

Thanks for the recommendation, from the majority of the responses it looks like I will be stopping at Jacob's. If I have time I will look for the Don's place as well.

Some people were suggesting Bergeron's on Lobdell, but in the Port Allen area I prefer Benoits on LA1, I know it's a little out of the way being in Addis but I think it's worth the drive. Also if you are heading towards Opelousas on 190 take the time to stop in Krotz Springs at Kartchner's near the base of the bridge. Stopping there will probably keep you from getting a speeding ticket. Kartchner's boudin balls are the tits as well.

While they are good, I'll go across the street to get my Billy's boudin ball.
