Eh....
I always thought it was a vastly overrated place. Lobster ravioli was a solid dish but Bacco wasn't doing anything special.

Burger Chef at one time had a big footprint in La.. but it dwindled on the vine. In BR and a few other places in the state Hoppers were the shizit. Old time drive up diner erved by girls on skates at your window type of place. There burgers were better than almost all of what is availible at any fast food joint today.

Perhaps nothing truly exceptional, but I always enjoyed my meals there. Nice room and bar. I remember they used to have something like a truffle festival or month once a year.

Yeah, it wasn't spectacular or anything, but it was leaps and bounds better than the stupid place that is in there now. Stupid stupid place.

Burger Chef was a righteous dude. However, I heard somewhere that when he hit puberty, Jeff succumbed to the lure of fast women, hot cars and off track betting on wiener dog racing, all of which led to the downfall of the grill quality of their product and the eventual failure of the chain.

At least he chose the staight and narrow path of a good redneck/Cajun.

I went to HS and am good friends with Chef Richard Bingo Starr . IIRC, his family owned ??? the Bull's Corner as we always use to stop by late night for groceries and drinks.
missed restaurants
NO - House Of Lee , so many memories from my youth
- Bali Hai at Pontchartrain Beach , who couldn't forget the tiki hut with Polynesian food
- Sal & Sams , old school Italian food
- Bruning's Seafood at West End Park
LAF - Green Olive ; George opened one of the 1st Lebanese rest. in Laffy. Closed the doors last year to retire and raise his son. He even had cooking classes and a retail area inside to buy EVOO, grape leaves, etc...
- The Fish & Game Grill off Gloria Switch / Carenco ... Was only open for 1-2 yrs and operated by the late Chef James Graham RIP. Incredible wild game food menu that wasn't cheap but worth every penny.

Somebody mentioned Hoppers already. Can only refer to the original one IMO.

Swab's in Brusly (West Baton Rouge Parish). Its claim to fame was its seafood buffet. It was a destination restaurant for a lot of people that lived in Baton Rouge. It was the SHE-I-IT back then. Today it's Bayou Bistro--"We aren't just something, we are something else!"

Thing I recall most about that place is the family that got busted walking out with gobs of fried seafood in all their women's purses.

Sid Mar's in N.O. is sorely missed. Great setting in Bucktown with good boiled seafood and onion rings.

Why did Cafe Rani close? Seemed to do a good business.

Pretty sure the owners had other business ventures going on at the time.
