The Austin food scene has improved drastically over the past twenty to thirty years. Yet, I haven't found any old-school, awesome Italian style restaurants that you can get in the Northeastern states and St. Louis. It really is lacking in that department.

What say you?

Mandola's out there isn't good enough?

Romeo's used to be good.

Rocco's in Bee Cave is high quality, but not necessarily traditional

St. Louis style pizza. Can never find it anymore. Use to be a place in Destin but they closed down.

Nashville has the whole "Upscale burger joint/southern food/ farm to table" thing down. Honestly, I don't know how some of these stay in business and I cringe when a new one opens.

I've yet to find any good Chinese food or a killer Jewish Deli here. Mitchell's (blow me hipsters) and Noshville are a joke of a delicatessen.

ETA: This isn't a fricking Reuben

THIS is a Reuben

In Austin as well. Sometimes I wish we had a place similar to The Jambalaya Shoppe (or Rice & Roux) where you can go in and grab a cajun plate lunch or pint of jambalaya or gumbo. Sure, you have Stuffed, but it's not the same.

I seriously don't know if it can get more inclusive

Eat your way around the world without leaving San Francisco

Agreed, and the Stuffed on Brodie closed so the only option for good Louisiana-style food is the original Stuffed all the way up on 620. I don't think Evangeline or Cypress Grill are all that good.

I guess one could argue that, because that location closed, there isn't much of a market for it, but the food is great...the owners just got in over their heads. Rent in Sunset Valley is expensive, and the South store was poorly run for a long time.

I wouldn't say this area lacks in variety of food as much as I'd say it lacks in locally owned businesses. I always enjoy food more in other areas because I find there's more of a personal touch. BR is made up mostly of restaurant chains. It's gotten better in recent years though.

Italian is lacking in DFW and Austin.

There is a Mex/Tex-Mex joint on every corner though!

Cajun and Creole. There are a few Cajun places, but I haven't found any good ones, yet.
