A Korean place would kill in Baton Rouge, especially if you put it by campus.
I mean, there was a halfway decent Korean place in Biloxi, pre-Katrina. You would think with all of the international students at LSU and Southern and foreign folks working in petrochem and the medical industry locally, you would get something like that.

Don't know about D, but there's plenty of good Italian in FW.

Actual Japanese food
This.

Since moving here from the big city, I can't find traditional Japanese dishes like Oden, Chawanmushi, Shabu Shabu, Misozuke etc.

All of the Chefs here are Vietnamese/Thai/Chinese folk rolling bland rice, cream cheese, and three different kinds of fish topped with an obscene amount of aioli, then piled with fried panko crud.

Red Zeppelin is solid. Plus they have a really good beer selection.
Reginelli's is good too, but kind of expensive.
Fleur de Lis is a local favorite. It's just that it takes forever to get served and the customer service is bad. (They take cash only, beer and wine selection is lacking, I've heard about patrons getting thrown out for cursing or drinking more than two or three beers in an hour.)
Schlittz & Giggles is OK.

St. Louis style pizza. Can never find it anymore.

Probably because it is garbage relative to all other pizzas and only people from St Louis like it. I don't mind the flatbread like crust, but that provel stuff is just strange.

The Austin food scene has improved drastically over the past twenty to thirty years. Yet, I haven't found any old-school, awesome Italian style restaurants that you can get in the Northeastern states and St. Louis. It really is lacking in that department.

Not sure if you're familiar with the guy, but my friends had Matthew Odam on their podcast and he was hilarious (food critic from Austin Statesman).

I believe he actually talked about some italian food in town.

Episodes 63 and 64 if you're interested LINK

Not really helping your issue above, but topical nonetheless.

Italian is lacking in DFW and Austin.

Lucia and Nonna make his statement inaccurate .

Crispy crust is the reason I like it. Does not matter to me between provel and mozzarella.

Shreveport needs a Korean place. There was one in Bossier City back in the 90s, and it was really good, but I guess it was 25 years ahead of its time.

If there is a German place in SB, I'd love to know about it.

We've got Mexican, fried fish and BBQ out the wazoo.

Austin lacks quality Italian, Cajun, and homestyle (save for Hoovers).
