Pan sautéed softshells with a white wine and caper reduction, a little fried squash and some fresh ear corn.

My girlfriend's request after a long day at work, "can we just eat chips and cheese dip and boudin and watch Netflix?" I'm game and will probably hammer some scotch. The boudin is from Sonnier's in Lake Charles, my favorite in town.

It's not bad, but it's an old school joint. Appreciate it for what it is, but don't expect it to be a top ten meal for you.

I did enjoy it. A good cocktail, big steak and a big red wine.

white BBQ

Being the new Alabamian that I am, I've come to appreciate this take on BBQ sauce. Not my #1, but a very strong choice that I won't turn down at all

Friend of mine is arriving at about midnight. I shall cocktail until the arrival and then eat boiled shrimp and corn on the cob.

I'm going to have to take a break from FB. I don't do politics or religion there. It interferes with the food, restaurant and chef pages I follow. Now, there are so many pro and con posts about the latest issues that I can't even stand looking at my food and friend pages. I'm also going to unfollow a few people who are writing without checking in with their brains, first. I may just unfollow everyone who posts issues.

I already unfollowed a number of people including a friend who went vegan suddenly, which was fine with me with the exception of all the mutilated animal serial posts mixed in with the tofurkey posts.

Funny thing is I sat next to her, (and she's really a fun person who I love), at a high school reunion deal in the Fall and she was enjoying fried catfish, fried shrimp and oysters like she hadn't eaten in a month. I asked her why she thought those fish and shrimp didn't have feelings like all of her pigs and cows. She said since she's not in CA and back in LA, no one will know what she's eating and you have to eat seafood when you come home to LA, but she was staying away from the beef being served. I don't think she realized the cup of seafood gumbo she had included some tasso. Cracked me up.

Gris, I had some of your favorite seafood gumbo at Don's earlier this week. It hit the spot.

You are a smarter woman than I. I should just unfriend people. I tend to stay out of political and religious stuff as well, particularly since I don't share the opinions of most of my FB friends. It's just easier not to discuss, since NOTHING will change either side's minds, it seems.

I have a vegetarian friend who lives in Alaska, but when he comes home to Louisiana, he stuffs himself on every Cajun dish he can find, including boudin. More power to him for being able to stick to a strict eating regimen most of the time.

You don't have to unfriend. Just "unfollow" or hide them from your page. They don't even know it and then if you want to check on them or post to them or like something they have, just go to their pages every once in awhile and scroll through the crap and you can see what else they've been up that might be of interest. Keeps my pages cleaner and I see more of what I want and less of what I don't want to see. Doesn't matter to me if I agree with friends' opinions or not. It clogs up my page and takes me too long to get to recipes posted or articles on food and such that I like to read. Most of my close friends don't post that stuff. I stopped accepting requests from those whose pages look to be issue oriented or people I don't really know well. I just ignore them. I don't want a bazillion people on my page.
