Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar has announced plans to open a new location at Towne Center in the space previously occupied by Mugshots Grill & Bar, which closed in early November. The latest Walk-On's—which will be the fifth location for the sports bar and restaurant chain overall and its third in Baton Rouge—will feature a slightly new design concept, with an outdoor beer garden, more than 80 TVs, and custom table beer taps that allow guests to serve themselves. Walk-On's co-founder Brandon Landry says the 8,500-square-foot space in Towne Center is a desirable location for several reasons: It fits with the restaurant's target demographic, it is easily accessible from all over the city and also there are no other sports bar/restaurants in the area. "We are thrilled about the opportunity to expand our brand and open a new location that truly fits our concept and our vision for Walk-On's," says Landry. "We believe the Towne Center location will help continue the growth of our brand in Baton Rouge." Walk-On's has contracted with Arkel Constructors and Holden Architects to renovate the space and is planning to open in the spring. Walk-On's—which operates under the Last In Concepts brand along with Happy's Irish Pub, Schlittz & Giggles and The Roux House—currently has restaurants on Burbank Drive and Coursey Boulevard in Baton Rouge, as well as one each in Lafayette and New Orleans.

How does this work? It have a dollar machine and it won't work unless you feed it money? Or do you pay high hourly rate AYCD?

I think this is the fourth sports bar to occupy that location in the ten years or so that Towne Center has been open. Could it be that the demographics are just not there to support a sports bar?

It started as a Champp's then it became Mugshots. So this will be the third restaurant that has occupied that location. I wonder if this will hurt pelican house business?

I don't think BR will. I see only the one near campus surviving. The rest of the city has enough Applebees and Chilis already.

Everything that has ever opened up in that spot has failed. Champp's and Mugshots both.

Shame. Ah well, I only went to Mugshots once, so it's not like I'm missing out on anything by not going to Walkons now.

I like the Walk On's in New Orleans.. It's a decent place to have a beer and watch the game. Champs' food was awful and I never tried Mugshots. These two it seems, got blown away by the plethora of hamburger joints that are currently taking over BR. Hopefully they'll break the jinx of the location and offer a location similar to New Orleans.

They'd probably be better off opening a location in Metairie. That location would print money. Metairians haven't met a chain with substandard food they could resist yet.
