How does the Walk Ons on Coursey do?

The Walk On's on Coursey does pretty well from what I see.

Full for lunch, and pretty full evenings from what I've seen.

It's interesting what makes a restaurant successful or not.

I agree their food is just okay. Their environment is clean, for some reason, comfortable, service is usually pretty good...

That's better than most...

I like the Walk On's in New Orleans.. It's a decent place to have a beer and watch the game.

WAT
in Nola it's even worse since there are a hundred better options. Walk across the street to Borgne for much better food, beer and cocktails. Also Happy Hour is one of the best in the city.

The problem (for the customers) with the beer taps at the table is that you pay for the beer that is usually wasted due to foam. About 10-15% of a keg is wasted due to foam, and usually a bartender will pour the excess foam out and fill your glass with more beer. With the table tap you pay for everything that comes out. Smart move for the restaurant. Make money off of the excessive head produced by the common man who doesn't know how to pour beer from a tap.

Truth is, its not a sports bar area.

I might be in the minority but I have to disagree and I am actually excited to see Walk Ons in that spot. Is the food great no but at least they will make the restaurant right and a true sports bar and beer garden. Chammps went half arse on the interior, carpeted floors, crap tv's which they did not show in HD, and bad management. Mugshots gets a great lease deal and just moves in, does no renovations and no advertising. I now have a place to go in the area to have a beer, watch the game, have an enjoyable experience, get some good boiled crawfish in season, and know it will have decent employees and managers who know how to run a restaurant. Grant it I do live a mile away.

I'll never understand this attraction to mediocrity, the food is horrible.

What the hell do ya'll morons order? Order the burger or buffalo chicken sandwich or something of the like and it is as good as any other restaurant. It is a freaking sports bar that has a good atmosphere, with plenty of tvs and beer. Dont order the catfish acadiana and complain how it doesnt compare to jubans or Mansurs.

Borgne is probably the worst John Besh restaurant. Happy hour is the same there as it is at the other Besh restaurants… Luke, domenica, Amercian Sector, etc.

Walk~On's has 2 for 1 until 7 on weekdays. Come on people Walk~On's is a sports bar with good bar food. Borgne is completely different and their service leaves a lot to be desired.

Curious, do you think sports bars can't do good to exceptional bar food?

Is it not a self fulfilling prophesy to say "bar food" and have lower expectations because it's "bar food"?

Love what you do, and with passion and you'll do good food. That's it. Secret explained...

However, when you're more focused on the business branding and trendy things, atmosphere, etc, as well as everything BUT the food, then the food takes a back seat to everything else, and so there you go, self fulfilling prophesy... Bar food is bar food.

What's your definition of good bar food?

Also, I think some of you are using the "sports bar" label to say "The food isn't supposed to be top tier, just simple". Which is a ridiculous concept.

no but that doesn't mean I can't temper my expectations when I'm going to a bar and I know that the bar doesn't put food as the main emphasis of the establishment

not necessarily...I've been to bars that do food really well but that doesn't mean every bar has to serve stellar food to get business

true but then again, I typically don't go to a bar when I'm trying to have a nice meal and I go to Walk-Ons knowing fully that I'm not going to get anything special but they do have items on the menu that one can enjoy knowing that it's just "bar food"

And absolutely none of that is going to fly in and around Town Center.

Same for Portico in Southdowns..

It's what it is, and IMO, better suited for right outside LSU and perhaps along the interstate or traffic routes to the game. All I'm saying is they aren't doing anything to stand out from the crowd in that area of town with all that's going on there, and so, as with almost everything of the like here, once the newness wears off and the people who are drawn to it realize it's just average same old same old, it's going to be off to something else new and shiny down the road that gets their attention and ends up doing the same thing to them. To be special, you have to be special, and there's just nothing special going on to my knowledge, so it will not have staying power IMO...

I just don't see many people walking outside of Whole Foods and saying to themselves, "Hey, let's go to Walk On's huh?" Neither do I see that with the decision making that goes into looking at the plethora of good food options in the area and picking Walk On's instead. It's just not the area for that long term.

Champs? Failed
Mugshots? Failed

Lesson... The area isn't the place for average to below average sports bars...
