The excitement level in LA for brews considered to be bonafide shelf turds here in FL is amazing.
Once it gets here, the excitement starts to die down and pretty soon we're hoping for a new brewery to expand here. It gets relegated to shelf turd eventually.

Terrapin doesn't sell here. Months old to year or more old Hopsecutioner can be found at even the smallest of liquor stores and even some grocery stores. Moo Hoo sits on the shelves too.
Oskar Blues moves Dales Pale Ale pretty well but their others sit. You can find 2012' TenFidy still on the shelves here.
The Bruery one offs sell well but the regulars sit here and can be found pretty easily.
FL still has BCBS on the shelves.
UT's right, it's just the new novelty and eventually many brews end up shelf turds.

I remember the excitement when St Arnold's decided to expand into La.
New Belgium is a recent one that people talked about for a long time.

Damn, now BCBS is a shelf turd? I'll take another 4-pack or 2.

Good news. Cigar City on the way!

That's not real life. The Pale Ale is the last product by them I'm buying. Ten Fiddy, G'Knight, and Deviant are all beers I like to keep in rotation.
Terrapin, honestly, it's only select brews I'm excited about. Their standards are pretty meh. Hopsecutioner, I can take it or leave it.
And BCBS on the shelves blows my mind.
I understand FL has some other solid options not available here, but I can't just drink the same beer all the time. I like having different things to choose from. Even if I could get Cigar City I'd still buy other IPAs besides Jai Alai (the only beer I've had by them).

I think you meant to say the store cellars them for you.

By far my favorite wheat beer. All I drank last year in Missouri/Illinois

Yep, see that all over the DFW area. Top flight stuff like Double Jack seems to always move and be fresh but a lot things turd up the shelf. I only buy fresh IPAs, why wouldn't I when there are so many options now. Why would anyone buy an out of date IPA when there quality fresh options?

Unfortunately I saw a FW Double Jack at HEB in Houston with a bottled date of 9/23/13-almost 4 months old. Wish I could consistently find fresh DJ here. But otherwise, the Founders Breakfast Stout seems to be in regular rotation here.

That is a crime... maybe a hint that the craft beer market is reaching saturation in Houston.

I bought some DJ last week dated 12/6

Another thing that I see happen is that once an area starts producting more great beers locally, people will choose the local beer over the out-of-state beers for their regular drinking beer. A top quality Ghost in the Machine will hurt DJ sales in Louisiana (if FW were to start distributing in LA). DJ will become that beer you pick up when you see it, just because, "I haven't had one in a while", and will no longer be that beer you drive across town for.

They recently opened a brewery in North Carolina. I think we can expect them soon.
