will this be a year round beer?

Nope. Not enough production space.
Maybe one day. But today is not that day

I've heard really good things about Ghost from Andrew. I stopped by the taproom last week and he said they are shooting for the same class/style of DIPA as Heady Topper.

Has anyone tried it?

I'd almost rather it be a 1x a year release so i'll know it's fresh.

Enjoy By is doing it right. Although you'd think 12.13.13's batch was a little too close to the one before it the way it seemed to sit on shelves.

I'd also say a stable and affordable hop supply is a problem as well. Pure speculation, though.

Newcomers to the hop game are SOL on hop contracts for popular varieties. You'll see the market swing back next year until a new variety emerges as the "it" hop. Nelson Sauvin, Citra, Apollo, Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic - things like that are in demand at the moment. You'll see a lot more of those planted this year. Hell, a few years ago Cascade was hard to come by.

I've already offered the 5+acres behind my house be used to farm hops. Can hops be farmed in LA? If farmed is in fact the correct term

I have some farmland as well. I did a little research and I'm pretty sure a months worth of 100+ would burn them off.

Andrew has explicitly stated this regarding Citra and Simcoe.

I don't think he has announced which hops he used in Ghost.

That's a problem with a lot of breweries. Deep Ellum had consistency issues with their IPA because of hop supply.

Karbach's Hop Delusion was a huge hit, but they haven't brewed it again because of an issue with procuring enough mosaic hops while keeping the price down.

I love hop delusion. Didn't realize they used Mosaic. That's why i like it so much.

A lot of brewers here in Oregon contract to local farmers to get their hops. Sometimes you see on the brewer's website a blurb where they recognize the "Smith Family Farm" for supplying their Willamette hops.

Having such easy access to all these hops is probably one of the reasons there are so many breweries here. That being said, I think there are still certain types of hops that are in short supply.

I was at Mainbrew the other day, and they must have at least 50 different types of hops on sale by the pound. Before I started going there, I had no idea there were so many different types of hops.

I've been reading wikipedia to try to educate myself on different hop varieties while I save up money for my homebrew stuff. I have a few books, but one of them is completely over my head at the moment. Wiki is really helping as a handy resource for different beer styles, examples of each, and a lot of the more common hop varieties have their own page.

The best way to get a sense of what hops you want to use while brewing, is by simply finding the IPA you like, and find out what hops are used in that beer. Or what hop profile of that IPA you really like, and compare with others you like.

Yea, that hop has been all the rage lately. Rightfully so, I've had some great mosaic IPAs/DIPAs in recent months. Impressive how much juicy hop flavor it imparts without much bitterness.
