The delivery fee is a way to offset food costs, at least that's what we are told.

The driver gets none of it. That is fact. We are paid 1.60 per delivery. They say it is to offset the price of gas but the price of gas fluctuates. I do make minimum wage but some franchises pay less when you are out of store.

Apparently you get $1.60 of it.

Back when I was slingin pies a $5 tip was very good, $2 probably the average. That was the late 80's and a very nice area. We paid for our own gas.

Strangely, and we've talked about this before here, the price of a pizza hasn't increased much if any since then.

The best time for tips and volume was during the rare ice or snowstorms. Made serious bank on those days.

These days, its usually $5 regardless of the bill... though, its never much more than a pie and possibly salad..

pet peeve... when a driver doesn't have any way to make change whatsoever (big bills only)... in that case, I'm usually rounding down for the tip and not up..

I assume I'd do around $5.

I haven't had pizza delivered in a long time.. and the few times I have, it was around 3AM. I've actually never ordered pizza delivery sober in my life, now that I think about it.

That's the only time I really order it... Usually hung over with nothing to eat at the house and not willing to leave. Though I've kinda cut out a lot of pizza over the past year or so..

On the very rare occasion I have it delivered to home, at least $5.

First night at the beach, we often order pizza. They drive a long way to get to us, then it's a 15-floor elevator ride, followed by a long walk down the hall. $10. Even that seems chinchy for all the time they put in round-trip.

We used to order pizza on night 1 on beach trips too when I was growing up.

I always carry out pizza. I haven't had to tip a driver in years, but I'd say $5 is fair.

That'll happen more and more these days. Less and less people carry cash. Just use a card and add the tip while ordering online or over the phone.

2 or 3 is fine, Carson .. remember, this is TD .. I am surprised someone didn't claim they tip $10 every time .. the bigger chains now have delivery charges on the ticket .. that, combined with a couple of bucks is plenty ..

Me neither .. If I order .. I just go pick it. You can get it in 15 minutes instead of waiting 45 minutes for it .. Getting food delivered to you on a regular basis is pretty lazy ..

No, because we got 1.60 before they instituted a delivery fee.

The delivery fee is just another way to raise prices.
