retailers/bars

Most of the stuff that is consumed at a taproom isn't available for sale at a retailer (cause it ain't bottled/canned) and a significant amount of it isn't even available to be kegged to be sent to a barroom.

I've never been to a taproom that sells beer from a competing brewery. And if they want to sell non-beer, again, a full liquor license resolves that issue.

People complain about special interests ruining our country but they don't hold a candle to the special interests ruining our state.

There is some of that, but I think you have your 'significants' in the wrong direction. At Tin Roof at least, only three beers on tap at the brewery are unavailable outside the taproom. Compared to 10 or 11 right now that are available on tap and packaged. I don't know exactly what it is for other breweries around here, but I think most of them also package and distribute most of their beers.

Only brewpubs are allowed to do that here, and only Courtyard does that I'm aware. ETA: It would be illegal for Tin Roof, Parish, NOLA, etc. to sell beer from anyone other than themselves.

And there's the catch, breweries can't obtain a full liquor license, also illegal. Only brewpubs (meaning 100% of what they make is sold themselves on-premise) can do so.

How can budweiser promote the Superbowl on cans or boxes then?

Aren't they promoting a special event that requires an additional entry fee to get access to their products inside the gate?

From what I understand, because it's not at the brewery.

I would assume that's the case for the larger breweries, but some of the smaller ones like 40 arpent, not so much.

Yup. It would require a change to the law. But this seems like a simple change to make. They can do this in the upcoming session, I think (not the special, the regular)

When brewery taprooms are getting large crowds and selling plenty of beer and food trucks are on site selling plenty of food, someone else is losing out on that business. Follow the money... interpret that how you will.

So then what, restaurants?

Breweries had the ability to obtain a Class A permit prior to 2015.

Prior to 2015 direct sales were tied to brewers acquiring a Class A permit.

The members of the LA Craft Brewers Guild didn't like the age restrictions that went along with the retailers permit.

So they crafted legislation that tied direct sales to their brewers permit and removed their ability to be issued a Class A permit.

If you do a permit search on all the LA breweries that had taprooms prior to 2015 you will see they all have closed Class A permits.

Our liberal governor is just making sure he panders to whomever he can extract the most money from. Maybe the breweries should unionize, then he'd leave them alone. Unless he can figure out how to tax someone

You know that 95% of the folks don't even know about the stuff that is being denied to them by regulations like this. It's all done quietly to protect the interests of the power brokers and most people don't even know any better.

These events should not be affected.

They are run by 501(c)3 organizations and are not held on the premises of a brewery.
