Aquistapace in Covington and Rainbow Liquor on Magazine Street carry it for $24. Powers is the most sold whisky in Ireland. Jameson was my favorite cheap whisky until an Irishman turned me on to Powers.

I know they sell Powers at Martin Wine Cellar in Baton Rouge, cuz I've bought it there before. I wanna say I paid $18 or so a bottle for it.
I heard that the reason for Powers' popularity is that Jameson is seen as Catholic whiskey and Bushmills is seen as Protestant whiskey -- so if you're out for a drink at an Irish pub and you don't want no shite, it's easier to get Powers. Plus, the price and the quality are the same as Jameson and Bushmills.

As others said, Redbreast. But I just don't like Irish Whiskey enough to pay that for it. Much prefer either scotch or bourbon if I'm dropping that kind of dough.

Old wives tale. Some friends of mine from Ireland said they had never heard this until they moved to the U.S. Both Bushmill's and Jameson's are owned by the same company.

Any see or try the Redbreast 21 year? We only get the 12 yr, 12yr Cask and 15 yr here.

Also, has anyone tried the new brand Teeling? It's a 92 proof 7yr aged 6 mos in rum barrels. Gonna pick some up this weekend.

They aren't owned by the same company anymore. Jameson is part of Irish Distillers owned by Pernod-Ricard, and Bushmills is owned by Diageo.

Also Jameson (and Power) are distilled in Ireland, while Bushmills is in Northern Ireland, so I can see some people claiming there's a Catholic/Protestant split... no clue to the truth of that. I think Powers outsells them both over there anyway.

Redbreast 15 is great for the price. The Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is also good for the price when you can find it. The Redbreast 21 is phenomenal, but you have to be willing to pay the price and find them when they come around. Green Spot is a great newer one to the market. I've heard Teeling is good, but have yet to try it. Midleton Very Rare is also very good and it's price reflects that as well. As for Bushmill's, the 10 year and 16 year are both really good.

Wolfhound is a good, cheap, Irish whiskey. Similar in price to Powers, Jameson, and Bushmill.

Might not be able to find it in LA. Available up here in the Dakotas and Minnesota.

I want to try it. I love the Dahlwhinnie Scotch finished in rum barrels. Gotta be good for Irish Whiskey too.
