Interesting that City Market was the only one listed for Luling

How can you tell their ranking? Looks like they are in alphabetical order based on city.

There are other places to eat in Luling other than City Market and Sonic?

growing up I played little league baseball, football and basketball against Pinkerton. Lamer grad, still have some mutual friends.

Glad to see him not fall on his arse like a few others I know that tried their hand in restaurant game

DFW and Austin all over the list, and only Kreuz in Lockhart....

That'll get some undies wadded.

Killen's facebook post

quote:

"As the anticipation of the Texas Monthly top 50 comes out today. I feel this was when we were at our best. As time and our popularity grew we in my opinion cooked too much food and tried to please too many people and our quality and consistency suffered. Whatever happens today in the top 50, all I can say is my reason for opening a BBQ spot in the Houston area was to put a legit top 50 BBQ place in my hometown of Pearland. Thanks to all the people that support the Killen's brands. The lines are truly humbling. Do I feel we will be top 5? No, we lost the smaller production BBQ joint feel and the quantity we do now enables us to be as good as we once were."

The Pit Roo

Well deserved. I'm obviously in the minority, but I've been underwhelmed by Gatlins lately. It's been nice to have The Pit Room there to fill the inner loop bbq void.

I'll join you in that minority. I've never been impressed with anything Gatlins has done.

For Lockhart, TX ... it's a shame that Smitty's didn't make it for brisket alone.

In Longview, TX, it's a crying shame that Bodacious BBQ is on this list. Maybe I caught them at a bad time, but the one time I tried it, the BBQ was dry, flavorless and had the texture of sun-dried leather.

In Tyler, TX ... Stanley's yes ... may be one of the best "under-rated" BBQ places in Texas (compared to Luling, Lockhart and Austin area).
