Tell me about these cookbooks ...

As many of you know, my Mom passed away in November. I was finally able to get some things from her house in Metairie and take them home with me to Atlanta, some of which were cookbooks. I've listed them below. I know the first 3 are classics, but not much about the rest.
If any of you are familiar with these books, I'd really appreciate it if you could share some insight as to what I have here, and what are some of the better recipes that are contained within. Thanks for your advice.
Picayune Creole Cookbook
River Road Recipes I
River Road Recipes II
The Cotton Country Collection
The Plantation Cookbook
The Dooky Chase Cookbook
Justin Wilson's Homegrown Louisiana Cookin'
French Acadian Cooking
Cooking Country Cajun
America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook
Nestlé Best-Loved Recipes

Cotton Country is solid. Lots of good recipes.
River Road cookbooks are good.
ATK is great.

I'd keep all of them. Have you looked through them to see if your mom wrote any notes or tips?

River Road I has the locally famous spinach madeline recipe.

All those Louisiana cookbooks are very solid. From the Plantation Cookbook, try the crawfish etouffee, shrimp creole, turtle soup, grillades and crawfish cardinale. They're some of the best recipes for those dishes you'll ever see.

Plantation Cookbook is one of my first cookbooks. Everything I've ever made from it is good. I've got two of them because the first one is starting to fall apart.
I don't have the last 5 cookbooks on your list, I don't believe. I'd certainly keep all of the ones above the last 5. I'd keep America's Test Kitchen and I'd keep Justin Wilson's for fun. I'd keep them all, really, because I'm unable to get rid of cookbooks. I might ditch the Nestle's, but I'd have to look through it, first.

Ross, I'm actually finding notes from my GRANDmother in one of them.
I actually found something better though ...I had been asking her for my Great Aunt's recipe for Rice Pudding for years, and she couldn't find it.
I found it, written in Mom's hand writing, on an index card ... in a totally "out of place" spot where there were no other recipes. No doubt she remembered that I had asked for it and she guided me to it.

Thats awesome. I would have lost it right there on the spot.
I only have one recipe from my granny and it's her cornbread. Never needed a recipe as we ate it just about everyday growing up.

Gris, of course I'll keep all of them. I don't really bake, so my Wife is looking through the Nestle. She said it looks like Mom never used it ... probably was a gift or a garage sale purchase.

Now, that's really good stuff, Buck! You have some treasures!!
I'm not a baker either, Buck. I leave that up to other people.

Just for kicks, how many of his recipes have neither Lea and Parrain's, nor Sauterne wine?

Thanks for the info, Rat. Genuinely appreciated.

Gris, I found quite a few treasures like that ... things of a personal connection between us.
For example ... when I first took French in elementary school, she pulled out 2 menus from Antoine's that were dated 1940 ... of course they were in 100% French. I found those menus. I'm going to frame them. I remember getting 2 questions right on a college final in French because of those menus.

That's really neat. She's going to be with you always, not in the manner you'd prefer, but in your heart, head and house.

That's a solid collection

Great cookbook, Good read and referance on techniques. But everything is under seasoned.

Was a great guy, and even better story teller. Drank a few beers with him back in the day. Recipes are good, nothing earth shattering.
