He had to have envy of Louis' success with DeAngelos, spent coin and changed the successful dive atmosphere of his lil' store/deli digs to attempt candlelight dining, which aliented many customers..

It along with hi-rolling table games, had him outta biz and BR in short order in the late '90s, after many years fighting the good fight, and running a solid lil' shop.

Glad to hear of this new Roma Pizza and Omar, gonna go soon.

I had a pizza to go last week. Very good. The only problem was the girl on the phone who tried to take my order could barely speak English. It took me 5 minutes and she still got it wrong. She finally put the owner on the phone and he took care of it. Bad business to put someone on the phone who can't communicate. Otherwise, excelllent pizza. Garlic knots were ok.

Have not tried these yet but as a side note I
heated some two day old breadsticks I had left
from Roma and they were as fresh tasting as the
day I purchased them. The meat pizza was legit,
by the way...

Order from Roma again last night. The dough was the best yet. I love this pizza.

Anyone tried the calzones?

+1, the pizza is much better than the calzone.

I tried some Roma Pizza today, and it was delicious. The cheese pizza, supreme, and pepperoni were all great.

Here is my new list of favorites:
- Baton Rouge: Roma Pizza
- Lafayette: Pizza Village
- Houston: Grimaldi's

I used to live in Afton Oaks with my buddies in the early to mid '90s, we were Roma Deli sandwich junkies. Probably my favorite dressed sandwiches ever in BR history..that salad dressing shredded lettuce was the trick.

What a blast from the past. Johnny and his family moved next door to us in Shenandoah. I never could make myself go to his restaurant because they were slobs and their daughter loved to terrorize my kids.

We left Shenandoah in '93 and I never even thought about them until reading this thread.

I've never had the pizza at Roma Pizza but did have a calzone and thought it was really good.

Omar almost always handles the phone. It's just him and two Mexican chicks neither of which are very fluent in English. He must have stepped out for a minute or been using the shitter.

About Roma Deli?

I know I ate there when it was open but can't place it. Was it in that shopping center that now has Oak Lodge reception hall or whatever it is called in the back?

It is thin but chewy. Not cracker crispy, but a serious NY style crust.

I know I've eaten there when my sister used live off of Coursey but I can't picture it.

Tried Roma in Prairieville this weekend. I had the pepperoni and it was one of the top 3 I've ever eaten. This place is legit, I can't wait to go back.
