re: Spinoff thread: How much did your parents save for your college educ? - Bayou Tiger
My parents got me a used car and paid for the monthly insurance and gasoline. Scholarships covered tuition, room, board, meals, and summer internships covered play money. Of course that was back in the day before free student loans jacked up all of the costs. I would hate to go to college these days...

I would like to contemplate but don't understand this part...[quote]When you take a decision, how do you view time available to you on said decision? ie, no guarantees that this time is yours. re: So who's buying oil stocks? - Bayou Tiger
I'm still waiting for XOM at $67, and meanwhile my oil stocks that I bought a couple of weeks ago are getting crushed. Currently 55% cash but looking for a great buy and hold entry point on XOM....

re: Boots Garland...We all lost a great man Yesterday - Bayou Tiger
Boots was a real character and a great guy. I just looked up the "fartlek" method he talked about, and apparently it's a real thing. I thought he was just trying to get us to crack up. Boots made running training a lot of fun and definitely made me faster than I should have been....

re: Oil stocks...are you buying? - Bayou Tiger
Recently I moved from 100% cash to trying to buy the lows, looking for gains over the next 2-3 years. Bought Kinder Morgan at 17.59 (now 13.61, geez) Bought EOG at 69.95 (now 62.91, ouch) Bought Anadarko at 37.75 (now 37.34) I still feel good about these over the 2-3 year time window, but it...

Baseball Walk-up Music - Bayou Tiger
Anybody have a link to or recollection of the walk-up music that was played for Tiger baseball players over the years? I vaguely remember Todd Walker with "Batman", and a few others are on the tip of my brain (e.g. J.C. Holt)....

re: How would you invest a $4,000 Christmas bonus? - Bayou Tiger
Certainly depends on each individual's financial picture. Personally I would just throw it in cash in the brokerage account, with a few trades already awaiting a limit order trigger. As to the individual stock, whichever gets to the trigger point first. Generically I would say pay down highest in...

re: How's the Traffic Flow of Tiger Fans on I-10 West? - Bayou Tiger
I am actually excited about this game. The Tigers should play loose with nothing to lose, with both teams putting up points and the first teams in until the end. It's probably my most anticipated bowl viewing since 1/9/12....

re: I am looking for energy stocks to buy for the long term. Any suggestions? - Bayou Tiger
EOG is starting to look good to me again. The stock is just over $70 right now, and my limit order would trigger at $69. Earlier this year I rode it up from 69.82 to 86.95 before selling. On a relative basis among the shale players, EOG has good acreage, balance sheet, and corporate culture (effi...

re: Houston Hilcorp gives every employee $100k bonus. - Bayou Tiger
[quote] At the start of the year they asked for reduced rates so they could "keep the budget straight". Everyone knew they were a healthy company, and are likely using the fact that other producers were demanding similar reductions to their benefit. Something like this just proves that to be true.[...

Great company. I think when they did the $50,000 it was even grossed up for taxes. I wonder if they did that for this one too....

Well, it's about that time again. If XOM goes below 71 then I'm in. Anyone have their eye on any other oil stocks?...
