re: Update on an Issue You All Helped With - Bayou Tiger
Congrats on the big decision. Probably the worst thing you could have done is gone into it half-committed and dropped out later. You may look back and swear that this is the best choice you ever made. It's all a matter of perspective and making the most of your opportunities. This financial "near...

Having a $400k car on the OT Lounge is baller status. On the Money Board, however, having the same $400k car raises credibility questions if you ar...

Sure, all of that makes sense. But he is trying to deal with the situation at hand, which includes a kid. Really the biggest problem is if he takes on debt and quits halfway through. It's all or nothing at this point....

re: You're all sleeping but I've made a huge mistake - please help - Bayou Tiger
And I'm saying me not having kids doesn't mean I don't understand, it means some of us choose to not have kids till we're set in every way.
Good luck with that. Early in our marriage we had the same mentality, but realized there always is going to be some sort of next milestone in lif...

Man, I feel for you just reading this. If your wife really supports you here, I agree with ILB that she needs to step it up. She needs to become a master home economist with your family's budget and meal prep, and pick up at least a few hours a week of a job. You should consider tutoring or...

re: How do $40k a year millionaires pay for these swimming pools? - Bayou Tiger
Using an interest-only HELOC at 3.5%, a $50k pool would cost $146/month and is deductible for income taxes. Maybe they cut the cord on their cable bill? It's hardly baller status. ...

re: Spin-Off: BS in Engineering Paired with MBA - Bayou Tiger
BSEng/MBA checking in... It's sort of a chicken or egg thing for me. Finance was my primary interest growing up, but I got an engineering degree with the goal of getting an MBA too. I went to night school that my employer paid most of to get my MBA. And I definitely did not go to a top 20 scho...

re: Net Worth Positive - Bayou Tiger
Thanks to my parents, fourth grade is when I started putting money into a stock DRIP and have been above the line ever since. 100k at 27, but did not hit 250k until 35 As a young single guy I was saving aggressively, at close to 25% going into 401k. But since about 28 years old I have just put in the minimum to get the company match....
But I do agree, it's stupid to finance it, what am i thinking??
 That's kind of a strong view, but it underscores why I don't discuss finance with acquaintances and pick my spots on an anonymous message board. It really depends on an individual's personal finances. Over the y...

re: Anyone built a pool? Looking for info on financing - Bayou Tiger
I built a pool and outdoor patio and financed with a HELOC. The kids are the perfect age to enjoy it, and the outdoor kitchen is great for family evenings. However, in no way is the pool an investment. We are in the house we plan to stay in, so I bit the bullet and spent money on something we enj...
