I like Pho.. but this whole "how dare you criticize my culture" schtick is getting old.

People are so fricking stupid. Think for yourself. Stop carrying around a tribal mentality.

Races are always measuring themselves up against others.. it's complete and udder nonsense. Primal thinking retards..

sorry for the rant.. this topic has always pissed me off.

Main thing that I take from this, trying not to be offensive, is that perhaps your wife should take some cooking lessons?

Well-made Vietnamese food is delicious. But, to each their own. Some people like their steaks well-done.

When fish sauce is used properly, you can hardly taste it, if at all. There is this really pungent paste that they (speaking of my wife and her cousins) eat with catfish that I will admit is really horrible.

Apparently my generation has nothing better to do than scream "cultural appropriation" and pout about a white person having an opinion on ethnic cuisine.

Let me catch one of them chinks eating some apple pie.

Yeah. Vietnamese people always use Sriracha sauce, a sauce that originated in Thailand and is mass produced in California.

fricking retards.

Vietnamese people in Vietnam use jalapeños and limes.

You're probably referring to mam nem(anchovy sauce) because I don't see how Vietnamese people would eat catfish with mam tom(shrimp sauce/paste).

Also, Viets prefer red chile peppers over jalapenos.

It's not like we get mad when other folks try to cook gumbo and frick it up. We're not screaming about appropriation of Cajun culture.

Just wait until I post about how to boil and eat crawfish and recommend discarding the heads because all the meat is in the tails. Let's see how that goes over.

my wife couldn't cook toast correctly... her mom cooks... she is old school, mainland Vietnamese, so i'm sure she knows what she's doing...

but i'm sorry... i'm not picking the fricking tendons off an oxtail when there are perfectly good chicken breast at the grocery store...

i'll take your word for it... i just can't the soups and shite... now the table top grill thing, where you take rice paper and wrap the grilled meat and veggies and eat it, i can do that all day...

those people are morons and shouldn't be allowed in the gene pool...

and for those wondering about the fish sauce smell, no, it's definitely not my wife... she's so white washed, it ain't even funny.... she's not like one of those fresh off the boat types....

Vietnamese in America always use sriracha in pho. There's no pho restaurant in America that doesnt have it. Vietnamese guy owns the rooster brand sriracha. It's not far fetched that the sauce had become synonymous with eating pho in the states.

Also, no body is getting mad about cultural appropriations except one or two ppl. Everyone else is pretty much telling the white guy not to tell them how to eat their own food, as he was the one being all snobby about not adding this or that. How'd you like it if a Malaysian told you how NOT to spice your crawfish boil?

Lol this isn't even CLOSE to always being true. There are lots of older Vietnamese women who may not know how to cook. Why would you expect them all to have that skill? My wife's aunt (Vietnamese) used to throw tomatoes in water to make soup, with nothing else added. There are bad cooks of every ethnicity. Sorry your wife and her mom can't cook.

The same people that scream against cultural appropriation scream for globalism and against nationalism. It's kind of funny.

This. The Asian women who cook for me at work make their own spice mix for their pho. It's pretty much the best I've had. The white boys use sriracha. Too much butt hurt in that article for me.
