re: Orange Co. CA food recs - pongze
Give the pork soup dumplings (xiao long bao) at Din Tai Fung at Southcoast Plaza a try (it's in Costa Mesa). All the food there is good, actually, but that's what they're known for. Get some bread from 85 degrees bakery on Alton Parkway. As for what another poster said about the Vietnamese fo...

re: I've given up on making mac and cheese - pongze
So I just tried making mac and cheese from scratch for the first time today. Everything was going lovely, until it came time to eat. The cheese sauce on top still looked nice and creamy but inside it was grainy. Researching it a bit, it looks like a number of things can cause this. For me, it rem...

re: Shake shack doesn't do burgers rare anymore - pongze
Friends, public service announcement here: I stopped eating pink burgers in medical school, after learning about E.coli 0157, which can cause [link=(http://www.about-hus.com/)]hemolytic uremic syndrome[/link]. That condition is as bad as it sounds. The chances are low, sure, but the effects are p...

re: Must Sees and Things to Do in Downtown Chicago - pongze
Check and see what's playing at the Chicago theater. We caught Harry Connick, Jr. there a few weeks back and it was an awesome show. Lyft and Uber are really convenient there, so there really shouldn't be any reason to limit yourself yourself to just downtown....

re: Las Vegas - What to do besides gamble - pongze
My wife and I go on average maybe 4 times a year. We've seen most of the major shows. Absinthe is probably the favorite for both of us. It's similar to a Cirque du Soleil show, but all the seating is very close up and it's spectacular. Beatles Love was very good, so was Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia...

re: Serious question for OT Doctors. Any pain relief tips for mono and strep throat - pongze
If you are a normal sized adult, get some liquid Benadryl and Maalox or Mylanta. Mix 30 ml's of the benadryl and 60 ml's of the maalox or mylanta. Swish and swallow 1 - 2 teaspoons four times a day. I prescribe this mixed with carafate (prescription only, I believe) all the time for throat pain. ...

re: Trip to Chicago - pongze
My wife and I just got back from Chicago yesterday. Our trips often revolve around food, but as far as family-friendly activities, in addition to a game, you can also take a tour of Wrigley, ton of history there. $25 per person. We did a round of the old school Chicago style pizzerias with the ex...

re: For those with pizza steels... - pongze
I didn't know we had other serious bakers here! I find 2% salt to be ideal for straight doughs. 3.2% for me would be a little salty. I like working at 75% hydration, maybe because I started baking with Chad Robertson's Tartine country loaf. My pizza dough recipe would be considered Neapolitan ...

re: Medical Error is the Third Leading Cause of Death - pongze
[quote]I see a ton from ER and hospitalists. This is the bulk of claims right here. Care with a private practice physician tends to be outstanding, lets be honest they care more and know their patients. Once you go through the hospital door is when you are at risk from facility, nursing and p...

re: Medical Error is the Third Leading Cause of Death - pongze
[quote]Leaving sponges and/or implements inside after surgery are as common as car wrecks now, "repairing" the wrong extremity happens a lot[/quote] This is amazing. Full disclosure, I am an emergency physician. Most hospitals have implemented 100% use of "time outs", which refer to, with an aw...

I can't speak regarding the Capital One Venture vs the Barclays Arrival, but here's my advice. 1) as you are planning, if you are playing the points game, always, always pay off your balance. If you carry a balance and pay fees, there is no point to earning points for travel, as they will cost y...

Tax consequences of loan to family - pongze
Hi, I've been very impressed by the knowledge on this board and am hoping to get some advice. Short of it is, my wife's cousin is asking to borrow about $30k for a few months so that they'll have enough for a downpayment on a new house and to pay their taxes. What are the tax consequences or con...

re: Italian Rest recommendations NYC - pongze
Another vote for [link=(http://www.lartusi.com/)]L'Artusi[/link]. We went at around 10 PM after a show, witho...
